Gone Moab 2021

Is this event happening this year? I rolled my tickets over from last year and want to start making reservations if necessary. I'm pretty sure EJS is being held again this year so I don't see why we couldn't go.

So far, yes, we are having gone this year. We're waiting to publish information until we can get an update from the county. Expect to see updated information in the next week or so.

We are working through some details with Grand County right now. Expect an update to be published this week. The hoops were being required to jump through are a bit crazy.

Ok, yeah, I understand. That town being a destination town I can't believe they are willing to kill all those local businesses like this. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Moab survived for quite some time with a much smaller number of visitors. In the last 7-8 years, the number of visitors, and groups wanting run events has literally ruined that town. They don't have the infrastructure for it. I know the permanent residents are sick to death of it. They want their town back. Having run 80 plus trails down there for years now, I can tell you the environment is being ruined by careless visitors too.... The national Parks are being overrun. It's become a place to avoid IMO.

Personally I support their efforts to limit what happens there. Particularly with SxS, as they have done by far the most damage.

That's sad, I've been through town a cpl times but never off road. We talked to several locals that say the same as above, they'd just like their town back.

If they need to be more discerning that's fine but Gone Moab is not a very big event in my opinion and obviously not a wild no rules party ride

Okay kids.

2021 registration starts midnight friday. Because of the restrictions imposed by Grand County....well...shiat ain't free.

Everyone that has 2020 tickets should have received an email with a promo code that pays for the dollar value of your 2020 ticket. Unfortunately, we have to pay a LOT more (3x more) in insurance because of covid. ANd we have have to have someone on staff the entire week that has a supply of covid tests and the licensure to administer them. So that's expensive too.

I'm afraid there's more fun news. The county is not letting us having any gatherings. That means no group dinners. As a result we can't do our normal dinners that we do. So no food. But, we are still having a raffle. It may end up being virtual like the 2020 raffle. That has yet to be decided.

Here's the eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gonemoab-2021-tickets-143522165661

Remember, our insurance is contingent on accurate count of attendees. So if you don't register, and just show up, you can't run in the group. We have to report all of our attendance to the BLM. And we get invoiced following the event for the number of people that attended.

This is going to be a weird year. But I'll be there (hopefully fully Titan Swapped) and we're going to wheel.

Hey yall, this will be my first time at this event and none of my friends offroad so I'll be on my own. Is anybody out there interested in getting a group campsite together?
Looking to be there for the whole week, and run trails like Fins n Things, Poison Spider Mesa, Hells Revenge. I'm in a 2019 Frontier, winch/skids/sliders/33's/open diffs. I've driven Fins before but that's my only experience with 4x4 in Moab (mostly explore the San Juan mountains and white river national forest in Colorado where I live), everything else has been on the mountain bike.
I know everything is weird with COVID so let me know what the protocol is, otherwise reach out if you're interested! OR, if there is a better place to post this, let me know as well.

I just got word that Nissan is officially in this year. They want to send one of the Nismo Off Road crews to the event and represent. So that's pretty cool

About damn time.

I wonder if they'll feign surprise when they see a T swapped fully locked X on 35's with 2 feet of flex.

Will be doin doin these (in order)
Top of the World
Elephant Hill
Steel Bender
Dome Plateau
Hells Revenge

Started getting the X 100% trail ready recently. Put some new Bilstein rear shocks in and replaced all 4 O2 sensors (had a 138 code and figured might as well get them all while I was at it since they were all about the same age). Next I'm replacing the starter with a Mean Green gear reduction one (old starter didn't like turning the motor over with the single digit temps over the winter) and putting in a new trans filter and pan gasket just for preventative maintenance since I'll have the skid plates dropped for the starter job anyway.

After looking at some videos on Youtube, I am second-guessing my choice of trails - Hells Revenge & Metal Masher -.
My X has stock engine, automatic, stock Pro-4X rear locker, front spacers & rear shackles providing 2" of lift, Narrow 35s, Sliders, Skids, ARB front & Hefty rear bumpers, 4.10 gears. Is that enough for those two red trails?
When looking on youtube, it feels like even people with built Jeeps on 40s are having trouble...

As long as you follow the leader you'll be fine on Hells. You can take a stock truck on Hells. That trail is a mental challenge more than it is a mechanical challenge.

On Metal Masher, you're going to get beat up. But you can do it no problem.

Did Hell's in my 1955 CJ-5 with 9" drum brakes front and rear, no lockers and on 31's. Can't speak for metal masher but like prime said should be fine on Hell's. I skipped most of the optional stuff though.

I'm not on there yet. As one of the organizers I don't want my spot to to take away from someone who wants to do a particular trail..

I've led both of those for GONE.... (I'm on 33's, t swapped, fully armored, and 4.10's with an open R180)

You'll be just fine.

I assume you're new to the Moab trails, and slick rock wheeling. Your best friend IS NOT THE SKINNY PEDAL. Use your gears to engine brake (i.e. you can drive the entirety of both of those trails in 1st or 2nd 4Lo), and make sure you learn how to use both pedals with both feet. On Hell's take the bypass on Tip over Challenge, do not try Hell's Gate, Escalator, or the Hot Tub. On Metal Masher, you'll know what you're not doing as soon as you see it.

On 7 Mile, you'll want to try Wipe Out Hill... Don't... not yet... get some more Moab under your belt.... (I've led that too)

Your rig is plenty well built to do 80% plus of the trails down there, minus a few obstacles.

RULE #1 Remember you have to drive it home.
RULE #2 Moab does not have many parts for Nissan's, so bring 'em

AND THE CARDINAL RULE OF ALL RULES - learn what Cryptobiotic Soil looks like in all its stages, and DO NOT step or drive on it ever. i.e. Don't Bust The Crust
