Great Lakes Xterras

Spring run
When: April 27-28
Where: Badlands ORP located in Attica, Indiana

What to Expect: Mostly dirt trails and mud. But there are some challenging rock climbs and sand. Basically there is something there for everyone to do.

ALL TRAILS ARE STOCK FRIENDLY BUT ARMOR, SLIDERS, AND BIGGER TIRES ARE RECOMMENDED

FRONT AND REAR RECOVERY POINTS ARE REQUIRED AS Well as Flags. They sell flags there

Camping; There is a campground located in front of the Badlands that we stay at. Although there are hotels located in town. The only bad thing is that you might miss out on some of the shinanigans.

Here's Badlands website for more info.

Is the stock tow hook and a trailer hitch good enough for recovery points? Thinking of bringing my pop-up camper too.

I'm not speaking for glx but you can pick up a hitch shackle fairly cheap. Harbor freight, 3 wheel parts, off road performance parts all sell them. They generally run around $25

Stock hitch is fine.
I have used my stock hitch as a recovery point many times and still do. A lot of guys will buy the shackle insert for a hitch but I have always just crammed the strap Into the receiver and used the hitch pin. I've don't it that way with a few recoveries a many times with no problems!!!!
As for the front stock recovery point, its cool as long as u are willing to hook the strap to it if ur hood deep in mud!!!!

Yea they got a few different version of the flags. Usually $10 and up. You could also go to Walmart or target and buy the same style flag that mounts to a child's bike for cheaper.
Most of us just zip tie it where ever. They have ones at badlands that mount in a CB antenna mount.

Just looked over the rules & regs for the Badlands; anyone know if they have those orange flags for sale at the park?

what Acasper said, and a nice place to mount the cb antenna mount without drilling into the body is the back wall of the roof rack basket, if you still have it ofcourse.
also the ones they sell at the park are 6 feet long, so thats why in the trip last fall my flag was so darn high lol. but you can cut them in half and zip tie the flag to the shorter end with the threads to the mount.

Good deal. I'm sure I'll come up with something, haha.
This is going to be an awesome weekend (especially because I'll be picking up my cargo rack from Tony!)

^ Jack, I have an extra flag you are welcome to use if you want. I have purchased multiple due to forgetting it nearly every time I go wheeling at Badlands

Haha cool, thanks.

I am officially in and Baxter the ridgeless wonder will be tagging along as well.

How does your pup do off-roading?

I am in Kenosha. Right between Milwaukee and Chicago.

I've never been down there before. I'm coming from southeast Michigan; I'll be taking US-24 alllllll the way west to Lafayette / Attica.

Post up on the Facebook page.
You could ride down with the Chicago group.
A lot of the north west Chicago burbs guys meet at the oasis on I-294 north of I-55. They usually meet 7-8am.

Jack Stilts, you dont want to take US24 , it will be a long trip on a 2 way road. It may be the the shortest way but believe me it is not the fastest and it is not a nice drive...

Looks like it's going to be a pretty good trip and a bummer I can't make it since I haven't been to Badlands yet. Still need to get out there since it's only a couple hours away. Hopefully the trip report will get me excited enough to make it there at some point this year

You're right...just looked at distance vs. time. I'll be taking I-94 west to I-65. Good looking out! You coming down?

What I have always done is take I-94 and continued on 394 south. Go to exchange and cut across to US41.
41 has a ton of traffic lights just south of 1-80 but if u cut across it opens up just like a highway. Exchange isn't a straight shot across. You do have to do some zig zagging but I think it's better than goin to I-65 then back to us41
