Get Fit or Die

That’s literally what my doctor said to me a couple months ago. He told me I didn’t have diabetes, but given my high blood pressure and festively plump build, I am cruising toward it. So he said, “get fit or die.”

So I started walking more and eating better. Actually, I wasn’t eating bad, but the doc said “just eat less of it.”

Anyway, I decided to finally get a weight set (I always wanted one but couldn’t afford it on account of student loan payments). My wife actually moved her stuff out of her office because she barely uses and a friend gave us an elliptical machine that they have been using as a towel rack for years. Sweet. So we turned the room into a home gym.

So far, I’m loving it. I always hated going out to the gym, and I hated waiting for the dumbbells even more. But I’ve been getting after it for awhile now and am seeing good results. Down 14 lbs in the last few weeks.

It’s still a work in progress. We moved everything out on Saturday to paint it, and put it all back last night. Im going to hide the wires for the tv behind the wall and we have a lead on some mirrors to put up.

I put in 30min on the elliptical this evening then hit some of the machines at the Y.

Trying to go twice a week but that's hit or miss depending on what's going on with family.

Just finished another full body dumbbell workout downstairs. Now I’m off to the shower upstairs. Best part: no waiting. And I got to watch a show that I wanted to watch. Thumbs up for that.

Posted in the dumb thread: I’m fat and need help!

@Prime sent me here. A good start!

Your setup is great. 14lbs is better!

I have the room to begin a home gym. Looks like that’ll be the goal. Need to get back to walks around the hood too.
Gotta really figure out the food part……

@XterraRising keep plugging and keep posting. Once I get going I’ll hit back with progress. ASAP.

Going to attempt to get my intermittent fasting going again. I'm also out of beer and going to try to keep it that way for a while. Back to a single pour of liquor in the evenings before bed.

Wish me luck.

If you walked back and forth to the liquor store would that help negate the calorie's from your adult beverage's ?
Just a thought .

Luck! Single pour, like one shot?

Interested in hearing about your intermittent fasting. Not certain how it works.

So in your 24 hour day, you fast for 16 hours straight.

I opt to skip breakfast because I generally eat supper with my family at night. So I only eat from noon till 8pm.

I can't remember EXACTLY the function but it puts your body into a fat burning mode. The changeover into that mode happens while I sleep and I'm saved the discomfort on that changeover (feeling especially hungry).

But it's not a continuous mode like keto where you have to maintain it. I can eat any foods as long as I stay under my calorie limit which puts me at two meals of roughly 750cal each. But, if I wake up and say "I want pancakes", I can go eat pancakes and not wreck three weeks of work getting myself into the "mode" like keto and others. I just skip breakfast the next morning and I'm back on track.

It's supposed to improve insulin sensitivity for pre-diabetics but not recommend for diabetics because of the intense sugar swing of not eating for 16hr.

I just drink black coffee all morning (negligible caloric value) and water. Then a salad for lunch at work and whatever for supper, before 8pm and I'm good.

The version I've used is 5 days of whatever, 2 days of 600 cal (or 1/4 normal caloric intake). I should probably get back on that.
