I am heading to Taylor Park Colorado in a week and wondered if anyone has images around there lately. My targets are trout and pike

Anyone have baits to reccomend since the a$$hol3 who broke into my car took my tackle backpack and the 500 bucks worth of tackle I had in there I am starting fresh and need some good lures. I picked some of these up at bass pro

So I'm almost exclusively a fly fisherman - for bass I either bounce some version of bead- or cone-head woolly buggers off of rocks near the edges of the lake, or use poppers when they're hitting the surface. I don't know jack about bass fishing the traditional way. Recently I have been using spin rods to chase tiger muskies though, and we use big rapalas, grubs and spoons.

I've been fishing for trout my whole life, starting with salmon eggs when I was a little kid, graduating to live grasshoppers when I was in high school, and then taking up fly fishing in my early 20s. fly fishing for trout, wherever you are, is all about understanding what they might be eating and matching it, whether it's matching the dry hatch (when you're lucky enough to be fishing when they're looking up) to nymphing (insects in their larval stage, dead drifted under the surface) or swimming streamers meant to emulate bait fish. In my experience baits like what Cameron shows above are effective on stocked trout, but the wild ones tend to avoid anything that doesn't look like something that belongs in there...

edit: spinners like what Mac suggested are money for catching big-ass trout. Biggest rainbow I ever caught (over 30 inches, 20+ pounds) hammered a panther martin in a small northern NM lake. No pic, unfortunately, but I did have witnesses...Also caught a 26" wild rainbow out of the Rio Grande on a blue fox. first cast after the sun hit the water on a November morning in the gorge, attacked it like it was personal.

I don't have that any lures but I can tell you a few things about them. It is all about knowing what you are fishing for. One day I will get into fly fishing (currently building my gear) and when that happens most of this gear will go to my dad.

Around here we have river and lake fishing, nothing too big so I normally throw small(er) lures and do rather well. Trout are very picky and I am sure Sean knows that all too well. I have found Gold, Yellow and Red attract our trout the best, and for bass it's all about things that look like little fish or bugs. Rapala lures are great the best being the Husky Jerk HJ5 and the Rainbow Jointed J-5. They seem to catch everything.

If you can't get a bite on a Rooster Tail then there is no fish in the water. RT did it right when they created that lure.

The second picture is my edc fish edition. Those are my go to lures and have been proven to work where I fish.

I've been fishing a mepps thunderbug 1/12 oz. and the trout are wearing that thing out in the Hiwassee. I usually fish the mayfly or grasshopper... I got ahold of panther martins new UV colored ones and they have been doing awesome too.

I personal don't like rooster tails but that's just personal preference. That don't seem to do that great in the rivers I fish. A gold mepps spinner is always my go to

Also if you can find it, a blue fox vibrax minnow is a great trout lure

I hear ya on that one!

I fish joe's flies quite a bit... My only complaint with them is that after several good strikes, the shaft gets bent. But they catch fish lol

Joe's flies...you mean like a Joe's hopper?

If your fly is getting bent, you're having a good day!

This all depends what I am doing.

I fish surf, Ocean, River, Fly Fishing is my recent adventure.

My passion is big trout/salmon.

So when I fish salmon its normally flossing combat style with a single barbless hook and a bead. rigged up with anywhere from 1/2 once to 1. 10' Cabelas rod with bait casting reel and anywhere from 10-15 lb test for 30-45lb king salmon.

Fly fishing recently I bought a cheap setup so i could buy all other stuff. I have reddington cross water 8 wt for future silver dreams and bass... plus some bay runs. For smallies I have an old 5 wt that was my dads first fly rod with reddington cross water reel.

Surf fishing it depends on the target but use around 15lb test in case you get a ray or guitar fish and use local sand crabs as bait. Carolina rig with 1 ounce weight.

First fish on a fly

Playing necromancer and renamed this thread. I know we have a few other fisherman here besides myself. So let’s share that knowledge!

My biggest issue this time of year is of course the heat. I fish the shade with mid to deep crank baits or flip and pitch jigs along timber, docks, and grass. What about you?

Also, I don’t care what anyone says. Color matters. I can use 10 of the identical lure in same spot and only get hits on one particular color. “Match the hatch”. Meaning pay attention to the water and the feeder fish. Are they shad, bluegill, crappie, craw? What about scale color? Dark or light? Match it. Also, clear water should have light color lures. Dark water should have dark colors. Pumpkin is the exception. gobble damn pumpkin color has voodoo powers and freaking works everywhere.

Share what else you know.

Edit; my post is mainly for bass but “match the hatch” also applies for trout. Pay attention to the water and also the insects if fly fishing or using feathered spinner.

If you use shinners or minnows you can dye them using the the peels from onions without harming them. Just throw the peels from a red onion or yellow onion in the water for 24 hours before your fishing trip.

Catfish will literally eat anything, I have used everything from Vienna sausages (chicken) live bait to pickled pigs feet.
