ok guys, I get to be the lucky one here...
I got in touch with Rock Monster Wheels. They're the civilian facing branch of the guys that make the military internal beadlock wheels that're made to take a lot of abuse, for the military vehicles.
Now, as of current, they don't make any wheels that'll fit the xterra, so, I got a hold of them to ask what it'd take to get some. Their answer: all it takes is a little money.
Ok, that wasn't REALLY their answer, they said:
"Derek,
Than you for your interest in our Rock Monster Wheels.
Currently we do not have a wheel with the 6x4.5" bolt pattern. We do not get a lot of request for this pattern.
As our Rock Monster Wheels are cast aluminum, a mold for both parts of the wheel would have to be made. In addition, the wheel would have to be tested. Both of these are relatively expensive when divided over a small number of wheels. Our minimum order for cast wheels is typically 200 wheels."
so, I fired back an answer that went something like
"200 wheels huh? how much per wheel, I'll see if I can drum up some interest for ya."
after all, 200 wheels is only 40 full sets (including spares) or 50 sets not including spares. I'd bet between a few forums we could drum up some interest....maybe....hopefully
so, here's the deal, they're an internal beadlock, much like H1 wheels, so, they use an internal ring, the back is one large piece/ring, and the "face" is where the hub/etc is as well as what holds it all together.
(a few pics of the tire mounting process)
first, you take your tire, and put your internal lock ring into it
then, you put the "wheel" in from the back side
then flip it over
install your O-Ring
put the "face" on, tighten bolts in the appropriate "drum head" style tightening pattern to the prescribed torque level, and take to a tire shop to be balanced after inflating.
now, they do have a different look for each wheel, so, I'm currently waiting on an answer back as to whether we, the end purchasers, could submit the style we wanted, or, if we have to go with one they pick, and if so, what they'd pick.
here are their current designs:
Jeep TJ
Jeep CJ
Jeep JK
Toyota Trucks
Ford Trucks
Land Cruiser
Defender
GM Trucks
GM HD Trucks
Dodge Trucks
So....I'm still waiting to find out more details, but, what're all of your thoughts? how many of ya'll would save/scrounge up the cash to be in for a set? (I for one would do what I had to, in order to get a set, because, well, lets face it, I want some BAMF beadlocks, that look sharp too)
