Front End Noise

Hey All,

So I have this sound coming from what I think is my drivers side front tire. I'm going to try and descirbe this the best i can. I kinda sounds like (cha, cha, cha) (just say that really fast LoL) as I'm driving down the road. It doesn't always do it. There isn't a pattern to it either. I notice it when I am driving to work. The two roads that I take to work are typical PA roads here. (yes some potholes).

I took off the tire on Monday and couldn't see anything like wear marks on the rotor or anything? I'm thinking possible wheel bearing? or Something along those lines. Just looking for some advice before I have to take it somewhere.

I'll mention I have a 2011 Pro-4x. 58k on it or so. And to be honest I haven't really been in the woods much at all since I bought. No time anymore. Just pretty much my daily driver which is around 60 miles a day or so.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Was there any play in the wheel, before you took it off?

Rock the wheel, 12 and 6 o'clock and 3 and 9 and see what happens.

Why do our wheel bearings suck so bad? Jeez.

This and if you can hear the noise intensify or get louder when taking tight turns. Thankfully there are easy to replace.

I just did my bearings last weekend. Luckily I had a set already, and didn't have to wait for shipping.

Sorry for not getting back. I was slammed at work yesterday. Anyway....No play in the wheel before I took it off. If it wasn't for the noise I would think nothing is wrong. I drove home on the interstate yesterday and it was very loud when I was getting off the exit. Roughly 20 miles or so at 65-70. Like I said. Very loud when I got off. Then it all about stopped. I go up over a decent mountain after the exit and when I am coming down I'm doing around 55 or so and I didn't hear it once. I get in town and I didn't here it at all. That part makes no sense. Sometimes I don't hear it.

Where I work they are rotating my tires for me today. Which needed to be done. (I work at school and we have an auto mechanics program) So we'll see if the sound goes away after they take a look at a few things. I'm still leaning towards bearing though....

Does the sound change with the speed of the vehicle?
What about the boots on your CV's? If those are damaged you may develop a clicking noise, mostly when turning.

I replaced my universal joint on my front drive shaft this spring. Originally I thought it was brakes making the squeaking noise.

Had everything checked out by a mechanic and the sound is still there. I didn't get a chance over the weekend to pull the tire off again. A guy I work with seems to think its the dust shield on the back side of the rotor.

Yeah it seems to get louder as i go faster. Actually I don't really hear it till I hit 45 or so. Its just annoying really. But I don't want anything to happen. Going to the fingerlakes in oct and my luck I'll break down or something.

They both seem fine. Everything seems fine. Again while driving no vibration or anything like that. Just the noise between 45 and 55. And not always consistent either.

Have you been offroad? Or has your rig seen mostly paved miles?

Mostly paved. Haven't really seen offroad since before the summer. To busy this year with work.
Hey man, so found this thread while I was bored at work. I know it’s been a while since it was posted but I was curious if you ever found out what the noise was? I have a 2015 Pro-4X and after a weekend in the mountains I have what sounds like the same exact issue! Checked the wheel bearings wheel play and even drained and replaced my front Diff fluid to see what that looked like. Everything looked normal and felt normal with both of those. My next steps are to check the brakes/dust guard, u-joints and CV’s. Hopefully something turns up cause the noise definitely doesn’t give you a warm and fuzzy when driving.

Hello all I just stumbled on this thread, I also have a noise, it seems like it is from drivers side breaks, for me kind of like the breaks are not seated properly. Not 100% on cause, I've removed wheel and adjusted dust shield it helped but still appears now and then. Is that similar to what you are experiencing? I have not had op to get dirty looking for source. Well hopefully nothing major and easy fix.
