Hello Everyone,

I was at Nissan this past weekend and found out that my front differential may need to be repaired and left rear axel seal. I was surprised because my xterra only has about 55 k so I took it to my mechanic and he confirmed that the work needs to be done. I am so frustrated because I can't figure out how this could happen and the price quote I received from the mechanic are very high. I checked Nissan recall website and there is no recall for my model. Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Depending on the cost to repair or replace the Xterra front diff, you should price out a Titan diff with Pathy axles or full titan swap.

Also r180 axle seals should be a DIY job if you have a spare weekend. No special tools required. Hand tools and something to pry the old seals out, you might wanna even rent a seal puller from the parts store for free.

Yea, it depends on what you mean "repair". If its a 2012 with only 55k, it should be under some warranty. A new diff from Nissan isn't cheap at all. If it's not covered under warranty, I would have them take the front drive out and roll around in 2wd until you can find cheaper. I found a used R180 shipped for $185 with only 33k miles on it and new Cardone Axles for $150 with unlimited warranty. I paid a little under $500 for labor. And you could even go w/ a Lokka Front Locker on it for cheaper than what Nissan wants for one.

i thought the warranty expired at 35K but i'll check on today. I am not the handy so i won't be able to do the job myself. Any mechanics out there? isn't this a little abnormal to happen this soon?
