Free anti-virus software that isn't actually malware itself?

There used to be an AVS I had on my Asus that I ran weekly to protect against malware, but I can't remember the name of it to save my life.


Any suggestions? I finally got the Female Unit's laptop cleaned up, now I need to protect it... (I also removed LimeWire..hmmm, I wonder where the malware came from???)

AVG is still free (www.avg.com), but I haven't used the free version since Windows 7 went out of Beta. Microsoft Security Essential (Win 7/Vista) or Defender (8) is better than nothing. Just...

Fortunately for me, she's running Win7 Home Premium, so it's at least somewhat familiar.


Did I mention that I <3 my Mac?
