Specifically, the timing chain shoes. Prior to 2010 they were made from an inferior material and basically wore out too fast. It's about a $1200 job to have the dealer do it. But the new shoes should last over 100k.
just had a price on parts, was 461.00 i can do the work myself, im a diesel tech anyway. ill order it. comes with new sprockets, chains, tensioners. etc.. hate putting down the x for a long time. but what the hell.!!

Damn! You think I should've done this before adding a bunch of weight? Is there anyway to tell if it's been done before complete disassembly?

It was bought from auction with no service records or history.. It runs great, 3rd owner so.. 211k miles and I'm pretty sure it's stock. I wonder if it would have been done by now...

Do you hear a loud whining sound, like a Ford power steering pump or super charger?

Old thread, new question...how do I know what rear axle I have?...a c200 or m226? And front as well....thanks.
Front: All Xterras have the R180
Rear: m226 has 12 cover bolts and is on the off-road/pro4x trim and all manual transmission models. c200 has 8 bolts and was on all the other trims.
