Feeler: Virginia, Maryland on-grid gatherings

BLUF: Multiple cities have 4x4 gatherings in parking lots to network and have fun between trail rides.

I know we all have our schedules and obligations in life. I'm keeping that in mind as I write this. As I said, this is a feeler.

What do you guys think of having a location friendly gathering of fellow XTerra owners (and friends who are off-roaders as well, not exclusively limited to XTerras)? Back in my street tuner days, local car enthusiasts would link up at approved parking lots on Friday and/or Saturday nights and just hang out, shooting the sh*t about cars, networking, discussing ideas for events, etc. These gatherings would usually last a couple hours and they would usually be localized, meaning guys from sections of the city (south side, north side, etc) would gather in convenient places so a long drive is not an issue. I'm in Alexandria, VA and I'd be willing to stay within a 30 min radius.

When it comes to people who are new to the 4x4 world, having an on-grid gathering would act as a casual opportunity to educate and familiarize new members about 4x4s, trail rides, how events work, etc. This way, people who are new to 4x4s can make their decisions in a parking lot, 15 mins away from their homes instead of participating in a weekend long trail ride. Feedback from and interacting with experienced 4x4 owners could spark interests in new 4x4 owners, or give good enough reason to save some people the hassle if trail riding is not their idea of fun or if spending a lot of money modifying their 4x4 is also something they dont want to do.

In essence, this concept of on-grid gatherings could suit the interests of a variety of people. Some people might love their stock 2015 Pro-4X and only want to do these on-grid gatherings. Some people might have a stock 2003 XTerra and want to modify it so they can take it off-road. The variety is unlimited. But providing a casual, open-invitation to anyone who has enjoyment with 4x4s, in a relaxed atmosphere, would be a staging ground for people to find their interests.

I also want to clarify that we all live in our respective cities and counties. I'm not suggesting that 55 XTerra owners within a 200 mile radius link up in a Wal-Mart parking lot. But those who live in Alexandria, Arlington, Manassas could link up in a central location. Those who live in Leesburg, Brunswick, Winchester, could do the same. Those who live in Richmond, Fredericksburg, Woodlawn, do the same. Multi-cellular type concept. The whole point is to make this friendly to peoples lives, schedules, and places of residence.

And I want to reiterate that this should not be limited only to XTerras. If you know someone who is cool (please dont bring trolls/liabilities) that has a Jeep, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Tacoma, invite them!

I'd like to hear your feedback on this. Pros, cons, changes, timeframes (monthly? every other month?), past experiences, etc. What do you all think?

Everyone likes pictures. This is what I'm talking about.

I too like this idea, you may want to check out CCFM, they do the local car/truck scene meets in Charlottesville, culpepper, Fredericksburg, mannassas. I have attended a few myself and they always have a nice turnout and permission to be where the meets are held.

I posted a picture for reference.

Thanks for the info Carrie, I've added them on Facebook and will contact them shortly.

Jay, it would be good to have you head north and hang out with us :D Obviously not every month but maybe a couple times a year maybe head to Richmond if the people there (yeah you Josh) start a thing.

If I'm doing an on-grid I'd prefer not to do it in a parking lot...that's the stuff high school kids and hood rats do around here. I'm down for bars...because adult.
