First.... petition to rename this forum VA4x4 instead of VAXC, because I don't think VAXC as an org has ever organized anything in the time I've owned (at least this) Xterra. Though to be fair VA4x4 isn't really intended to be Xterra specific either. Oh well.

Anyhow, last year we had 10 Xterras come out and run Flagpole. If you count those 10 and everybody else I've been wheeling with this year, we should be able to more than double that number if we sync up the right weekends. So for that, I propose a poll to choose the weekend that works best for everyone. If you can only do a Saturday/Sunday of a weekend marked as an either, please post that. The poll has "unlimited" options if you're available multiple dates. Once we nail down the dates, then we'll do a poll on the options below:

Option A:
The route would be in two phases:
1. Dunklehollow Rd from Skidmore/Switzer Lake to Flagpole Knob - this is arguably the easiest offroad route in Virginia, but offers nice scenery of the lake, a few water crossings, and of course a great view from the top. Chosen specifically because a stock Xterra can do it, and should enable us to get max participation.
2. Flagpole Knob back down Union Springs Rd - this is probably the most challenging (at least so far) I'm willing to do in Virginia (there are tougher, but I'm not that brave). If we do this second we still get the "fun stuff" for some folks, and for anyone that doesn't want to do it, they can easily skip the second phase and exit at the Knob.

Option B:
We can meetup in two groups: one going up Dunklehollow and one going up Union Springs, and meet at the top. That way anyone that wants the more challenging or easier routes can do them, and if pressed for time still leave from the Knob. Departure can be any route you choose.

Either way, plan to try and get some good photos of the group and grill out/hang out for a bit at the top before departing.

Again, the idea for this particular ride is getting the most Xterras, so we'll go with whatever date works for the most. If you're free a different weekend, post a thread and let's do it (or another trail) anyway! The group may be smaller but it's still fun.

Are you on facebook? We should post the poll on the va xterra facebook page? Also what about a “cars and coffee” type of thing in the “nova area”?

I’m not. For marketplace and occasional posts linking here I steal my wife’s phone. Feel free to post it.

I’m up for local meets. A few of us have gotten together working on each other’s trucks but that’s about it.

My votes are for a Saturday. And hopefully a verdict can be made sooner than later so I can put in for a vacation day adjacent to that weekend. It’s a long drive from Lake Ontario. Yes I’d drive that far. Was on flag pole knob over the 4th of July week running solo. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
