I just realized that the engine cover is missing from my newly acquired 2013 S trim - Dealership says some models didn't come with it on, but the bracket is in place to accept it. I see I can get one from Nissan for $40 or I can scrounge at the salvage yard - I guess my question is, did some trucks not come with it?

Yep. I think around 09-10 they stopped putting them on. My buddy's 10 didn't have one but my 07 does.

You can grab a cover and bolts from a scrap yard and it'll bolt right on. Nissan stopped using them as a cost cutting measure IIRC.

Yeah totally! By my calculations this would result in approximately 0.024% weight reduction. I think this is why gas mileage on these later models went up by 0.005 mpg! Alas, then we all started carrying cell phones so the savings were lost.Also for weight reduction.
