Editing Programs: Video & Photo

I have been wondering what programs people use on their computers to edit video footage, i.e. GoPro stuff. As well as what programs poeple use to edit their photos?
Currently, since I am poor and an IT moron, I simply use photobucket to edit my photos. I would really like to know the pros/cons of the programs people use and the cost of them.

I have quite a few shorts of GoPro videos, but they are mostly full of drab sorts of things and I'd like to know how to edit/splice, etc vidoes.

Gopro's come with Cineform editing software Mel.

I have Sony Vegas but its complicated and pricey.

^Yeah, I think the problem is more my computer than anything else. It's v-chip is so old/small that I cannot watch GoPro videos on it. *Sigh*

I uses iMovie for now.. Im hoping to upgrade to the real stuff this year

Gimp is the free shareware version of photo shop, many good manipulations can be done with it, not as great as adobe photoshop but it costs zero dollars. Also YouTube has a million tutorials on how to use it.

Probably a shareware version to edit videos too....google it

I like Gimp a lot. I'm still learning how to use it but like you said, there's plenty of YouTube videos to help out.

For videos I sometimes use Sony Vegas but usually it's just plain old Windows Live Movie Maker.

Check out photoscape. It's free, easy to use and intuitive so it doesn't take a YouTube video to figure out how to use. I've messed with gimp before and I just didn't have the patience to mess with it at the time or the computer capability either.

adobe premier but its a monster on my laptop so, ive held off on video until i upgrade, dont want to push it too hard
