DIY Rear Recovery Point

Hey guys so the other day I made myself a rear recovery point for my truck as it didn't had any..
I cut it out of metal and welded together... I think in the end it came out alright ..
I still have extra 3 bolts for 2nd one if I ever want to make one ... but I might hold off on that
because I might change my rear bumper or not ... Time will show..

Nice DIY.

I’m no welding expert either, but a couple things to consider that could make your piece a little stronger:

1. Plug welds between the two pieces. That would be drilling holes through the pieces and filling with weld. You ran bolts through so this isn’t necessary, just something to consider on future projects.

2. When welding around the edges, your pieces were flat. You should grind a small channel so the weld can fill in that channel, it will make a stronger bond. Again, with the through bolts not totally necessary.

I like watching your projects, keep ‘em coming.

Thank you so much for the feedback ! anything always helps !
I was considering weling like you said making holes and weld but then I thought as most of the force will be applied as straight pull that extra weld might not be necessary .. for this project but something to consider .

As to the edges.. I did tried to grind it off.. the 2 parts where they meet in the middle to create a small curve there
perhaps not big or deep enough ? idk.. lol

Thank you so much ! Im super glad that you liked the videos , I have alot more in works ;)

Ah, yes I see. I think that is enough for a channel, I didn’t see it in the video. And you’re right, for the straight pull, plug weld is not needed. With the through bolts you’re good. Just wanted to mention it for future projects. Thanks for the videos, they are great DIYs.
