so i got all the other stuff for my body lift today, besides 4 nylon/rubber washers for those who want to keep their driveshaft safety loop...what size are these? fastenel had like 30 different sizes.

Great write up on the install and good info on the hardware....thanks! I only want to do a 1in body lift but I am not fully competent in regard to what the listing for bolt sizes mean. I figure if above list is for a 2" lift and I only want a 1" lift, then I just need to get all the hardware 1" shorter. So what part of the bolt info references the length?

As an example with this one:

70333 12mm-1.25 10.9 HEX BOLT 2 $5.75 $11.50
LENGTH: 12mm-1.25 X 180 10.9 HEX CS

Would I need one 12mm-1.25 x 155 10.9 HEX CS?

NMTerras did a one inch lift and I know he would have a list of the bolts he used.

He said he used the 2" bolt sizes and then just put a spacer in to allow the bolts to come up tight.

I was about to offer the other half of mine..I have 2" pucks, but haven't cut them yet.

If you bought enough pucks so that you will have enough for two 1" body lifts, I will gladly pay half the cost for them.

I need to buy bolts..I bought bolts a long time ago, but for some reason I was sent 1" bolts all the way around.

glad i found this thread. who knows, maybe ill have the BL on before i upgrade the PML to a full 3in.

oh oh! question! im not sure if this was brought up in this thread or another so im sorry if im repeating this question. i know that if you wanna keep the drive shaft safty hoop you use the washers but what eles has to be relocated for the 2"BL? i know on the 3" you gotta drop down the radiator, but there anything else you have to be careful of, or is it just as simple as swaping out bolts and body pucks?

You will need to raise the front bumper..I used a 2" metal box in the front and the rear I cut the 3 prong bolt deal and drilled one hole.. It's hard to explain. Tuckeray be able to explains this better.

thanks Dave, but im also talking about things like the heater core hoses and making sure my 4wd shifter can shift into 4L all the way since it should be shorter after the lift.

The list I remember needs to be addressed:

-Drive shaft safety loop
-loosen steering column (allows for expansion, don't remove, just loosen. [you are going to need a few extensions and a 12mm rachet and a lot of PB Blaster] )
-power steering reservoir
-heater core hoses
-radiatior lower shroud (qnd check to make sure your radiator hose has the extra length, that might need to be replaced.)
-vacuum lines on the passenger side
-rear diff breather hose if you ha e already done the extension.

Other than that I think it's straight forward. Do not break the heater core lines if you do t want to be in the shop forever. Also don't rush through it because we didn't rush mine and I have had 0 problems, the other one was slightly rushed and everything that could break did.

For the rear bumper, just take a drill nit and drill matching holes to the ones that are in the bumper, just two inches below the original holes. I said forget the front bumper, so I don't have one.. But I believe you just have to get a 2 in spacer to put under the mount. You have an aftermarket so you could do the same as the rear and drill holes in it 2 in doing so from the original holes..

I don't think I forgot anything.

Hey Jim...if you are still going to do a 3" BL, let me know when. If I can make it up there I'd like to assist/watch/hand you beer cause I'm really considering doing one.

thanks Tucker! looks like there is a hell of alot more then what i thought. so then its just really watch all that stuff as the body comes up? sorry that im asking all these quetions, im just very ignorant when it comes to body lifts.

and Greg, id love to have you up here for a mod day. im just sticking with the 2"BL. but i am also gonna make my PML into a full 3" SL. as for witch one comes first, no idea haha.

I had the pucks for a 2" but sold them when I had trouble finding the bolts. STUBBORN AZZ ME is determined to stuff 35's in dem wheel wells and a 3" lift is required. I knew 95% of what needed to be done except the heater core hoses. That does put a crimp in things. Lemme know either way.

Greg I let Dave trim my fenders before nxm 1.lol I had to go back later and beat on them with a hammer. Its not to bad. It's really not seen anyway.

Tim, I know folks trim and cut and drill all the time... and I did with the snorkel...it's just that finality about it. Once you start that first cut there's no turning back and ya gotta be commited. I guess I'm not commited yet. Just call me a candy-azz... lol

That's kinda why I haven't got a snorkle yet...lol The fenders aren't so bad since its at the back and its not easily seen. I painted them after we cut and hammered them and youd never know. I know the feeling though...lol

When it comes down to it you just need confidence in yourself. If you're unsure of your abilities, you'll hesitate and that's when you'll screw up. There are 3 steps to take when cutting or drilling on anything..

1. Measure.
2. Measure.
3. Cut or drill


Using that guide I have drilled a hole in my roof, cut my fenders, ground all the paint off my fender lips, cut holes in my bumper corners and so on. All without issue.

Odd thing about this is, I've cut, drilled, bondoed and sanded some of my previously owned vehicles on a whim just to do something. Don't know what it is about this Xterra that's got me so wimpie. Maybe it's the fact I gotta do everything outdoors, always had a nice large warm and dry garage in the past. Guess I got spoiled.

ya know Greg...... i got my shop up in Central Lake County in my town we could use. all i have to do is ask my boss what weekend would be best and odds are it will be alright.

Jim, That sounds GREAT!!! now all I've gotta do is find a weekend to take off. My regular days off are Tue/Wed.

if we do it before May, Wednesday would work best if my boss has room cuz ofcourse thats a work day. so most likely after 3pm or after 12pm in case i get a half day.
