So my budget build is still on track. Im looking at a NP205 for $100. No shifters though and its out of a ford so it should be a divorced driver side drop just like I want. So we shall see tonight when I get the pics.

I always thought your X was 4x4 with all the armor on it....that's neat that you're SAS'ing it.

The NP205 looks heavily abused? Is that mud/dirt/grim all over it?

Nope always been 2wd I just try and go where the 4x4 guys go. So I have the armor so I don't break anything.

So now that I got my two axles and my TC I need to start planning my steering system out. I still plan on my being my DD for the most part so the full hydraulic steering I think is out. What other ideas are out there? I know there is a ton but I wanna hear what you guys think.

That's what I was think for both parts. So say I get the Toyota setup from psc for ram assist would that work with my stock power steering pump or am I gonna have to get a new pump?

why not just go to something bigger for the PS pump from a titan or an F250 or a bronco or something...instead of going hydraulic?

Your stock pump will work. But I'd stick with the 1.5" ram, not the 2" version. The smaller one will work faster and not have the double hit that you typically feel with the larger ram and you can still turn 35" tires with one finger. The biggest trick to setting up the ram though is to max the ram out before you hit your steering stops, so your setup has to be pretty spot on. If you max out your steering before your ram is fully extended or sucked in, then you'll start walking your ball joints outwards and stretch your C's. That's not pretty, because unless you're capable of cutting your C's off and putting new ones on, you'll have to replace your axle.

The steering box is important, you need to be able to drill and tap it correctly. That's where West Texas Offroad (Home of the Redneck Ram) is a good place to go for your drilling and tapping needs, but there are several places that can do that for you or that you can buy a box from.

In mounting your box, you're going to have to get into that body mount on the left front, so some fabbing there is necessary. But since you're taking your rack and pinion out, you'll have to put a box of some sort in there. So you might as well go with the Toyota IFS box, drilled and tapped, use your factory p/s pump with adaptive hydro lines and a decent ram (1.5"). You're going to have drill through your frame and make a mounting plate with internal standoffs, so just make it to fit the Yota unit.

You can talk to Creek or Dave about what they did, but I think they used either a Pathfinder box or a 1st Gen X box.

That's alot of good info. The big part I wasn't sure on was my stock ps pump. Ill check with those two and see what they are running and what is cheaper. But this can get me going on more parts to start getting

So I was doing some work on the X and had the front end jacked up and was starting to think about the ride height would be. So I was thinking around 44" to 46" to the top of the fender. Thats about 4" to 6" higher then I am right now so about 7" to 9" higher than stock. What do ya guys think about that.

This is about what it would look like

Also next question I've been searching the web but nothing yet but would it be possible to run the dodge dana 60 8 lug hub in the dana 44?
I would get the rear axle shaft made to match so I can run the humvee wheels all the way around to match the old military trailer Im looking at getting.

You'll have to see if the ball joints are the same part number, upper and lower. I don't think it is, but I could be wrong.

I know that Ford has an 8 lug outer D44, but I don't know if the Dodge is interchangeable.

What's the width of the Titan axle, WMS-WMS?

So what I got for WMS - WMS is 70.5" for the titan rear axle. And Im still looking up part number for the hubs and knuckles but so far I dont think they are the same. But Im looking into the ford parts. But its looking like I would have to change out the knuckles to but an 8 lug hub on it.

I'll talk to my partner and see what they do for the 8 lug swap, let you know what I find out.

70" on the Titan axle?! Holy Shikza! You sure you measured that right? The Ford D44 measures out at 65". If they're that wide, you'd have to run some hellacious spacers to get it all evened out.

Sweet thanks, That will be helpful.

I'll have to see if I measured it right. I just did a quick one.

Yep, you could get an older D44, and swap out the hub assembly for the 8-lug version. The Dodge axles worked a tad differently I believe, and may not be swappable.

So after so reading and what not I think I have a new plan for the way to get my 8 lugs all the way around. I am planing on using the Reid racing knuckles for the ford with the spyntec hubs for the ford as well. These should fit on my dodge d44 but if Im wrong please let me know. I know this way will cost alittle more but I figure go with something better quality and not worry about it later.

And the dodge and titan axles are only an 1" difference so that works out for me

How do you even mount up the different transfer case, you are going to have to weld in your own mounts and make an adapter plate, am I right? Why not go for the stock transfer case?

Yea I'll have to make my own mounts but i have to do some fab work anyways so why not. Also the ratio I get with this tc is way better then what the Stock one is. I think the np205 Ratio is 1.96 I don't remember what the X has

What are you doing about the disconnect? That was the biggest reason I didnt stick a dodge d60 in my truck. Also on your 8 lug conversion ive been told d44s will swap from the Cs out on any axle so you could get a set of outters from a 70s 3/4t truck with d44.
