Not sure if this belongs here or in general maintenance. Mods please move if this fits somewhere else better.

I'm getting ready for a long road trip, and my cruise control doesn't work. When I hit the button, there is an audible click and the cruise light turns on. But, when I take my foot off the pedal it doesn't hold speed.

Is there a fuse or some simple trouble shooting I can do to fix this. Not sure I would invest time and money to have the shop fix it, but if it's something simple to handle that would make the trip a lot more comfortable.

Any suggestions?

This might be what you're already doing but you have to press the button to activate it and also need to then toggle it to 'Set' for it to hold the speed.

Check the little rubber button that activates the cruise disengage....it is on the backside of the brake pedal. They are notorious for dry rotting and crumbling away. Without the switch being engaged, the cruise control thinks you are pressing on the brake pedal, even when you are not.

Whereabouts is this? Anyone have a schematic or part name/number I can look up to have an idea of what I'm checking for?

That was it. There was no button to hit the cruise disengage. Filled it with a nut and bolt. Sure is a small working area down there. All's good now, no more dead leg on long road trips!
