Hi all. I've recently developed a coolant leak. I can't see where it's coming from, but it's coming down behind the oil pan in front of the transmission. Manual if that matters. 173k miles I know nothing of the maintenance history.
It only seems to leak after I've driven it under load. Wouldn't leak after or during idle at operating temp of 183 for ten minutes. My drive to and from work is 7 miles each way. I get up to temp 3 or 4 miles in. Speeds from 25mph to 55mph and I noticed the drips down my driveway and a half quart or so came out after I shut it off.
It has never overheated or gotten above 190 in the few thousand miles Ive put on it. I constantly monitor with the torque app.
I'm still making good heat.

After looking closer back there it does look like that's where the leak is coming from.
Not the inlet our outlet of the core, but at the engine. There looks like a few hoses there? It's definitely leaking onto the passenger side of the exhaust.
Doesn't look too hard to change either. I was really worried it was a hose under the intake manifold.

What you have to worry about is the connection at the firewall. 94% of people destroy the pipes coming through it.

Take a knife and cut the hoses off like a banana

Good info.
I just watched a video of a fella showing more hoses that connect to a metal pipe from the back under the intake manifold. He had the trans out for a clutch job, easy to get to for him.
I don't know for certain if I'll be able to get to the hoses that connect to the metal pipe without pulling the trans or intake manifold, but I'll have more time to look later in the week.

OK, there are two hoses between the upper and lower intake. _IF_ you pull the upper intake, you might as well cut them and replace because of how hard they are to properly remove. They're nothing fancy, just straight length of unformed hose. I can't think of any other coolant hoses at the back of the engine but those four.

It's been leaking more, but that has allowed me to clearly see that it is the upper heater core hose!
I'm having a tough time finding those hoses, searches keep bringing up radiator hoses.
Might you know the part numbers?

They are called inlet and outlet heater hoses. Don't search for heater core hoses lol.
The straight bypass hose was also leaking but I did get it changed, I'm a bit cut up. No more leaks though!
Thanks for the cutting hose tip :)
