So I use Wizgear magnetic mounts. I had one of the vent type that slides on a vent. But did not like it up high and it moved a lot. So I wanted something more solid and driver friendly. It now sits right at my right hand if in 5th gear cruising. 20200422_172733.jpg 5493.jpeg

A small mod not worth its own thread or even a post in my "build thread" so I figured I'd just add it to this 23 year old "Cell Phone Mount" thread in case someone might find it usefull.

A few years ago I hard wired my iPhone plug through the map light to my Kenwood DDX371 Head Unit. This way I can plug my phone in and hold it with the RAM mount up near the rear-view mirror where I like it.

I've been using "RAM Mounts, X-Grip" in my truck, on my motorcycle and bicycle for a few years now. They have always served me well.

My work commute is only 3.5 miles. On most days, not raining, snowing or below freezing, I ride my bicycle as it takes only 15-20 minutes versus the 45 driving the Xterra and up to a half hour finding parking. Plus most of the ride is through a public park that is closed to thru traffic. It's a great way to start and finish a work day.

On a motorcycle and bicycle the X-Grip has an "optional device tether for peace of mind during rugged use" that can become a bit annoying to use.

I know, this should be the worst of everyone's problems.

Anyways, I have been seeing "Peak Designs" bicycle mounts on a few bicycles during my commute and liked the look of them so when I needed a new case for my iPhone13 I got one of them along with the bicycle mount.

A few months later I got a ball mount to attach to the Ram Mount in the Xterra that has worked well on a few off-road excursions:

and recently got a motorcycle mount for the Harley:

I think this thing is great, one handed, so easy and quick! They all seem to work as advertised. I recommend.

Their YouTube ad can describe it better than I:

That's my story, thanks for looking, hope it helps.

While I like your mount, that 45 min to commute 3.5 miles is mind blowing. I'm with you, I'd ride as well.

I cant use the magnetic mounts, because I have to basically have a brick like case on my phone or i will destroy it. But this has me thinking about setting something up in my X too.

Yeah, the drive can be brutal. Light rain or flurries are the worst.
The only times it's a bit better is if a holiday or if it's storming. If there's any type of storm watch I can be the only one driving.
