CD Swap?

While sitting at work listing to the same songs on my ipod I had an idea.

Would anyone be interested in a CD swap?

You make a mix of all different songs that you don't think someone would usually listen to and you swap your cd with that some one.

Or something of the sort. You could email the songs or ship them a cd. Personally i know i would prefer the cd. Things like that are more memorable in my opinion.

We can fine tune the process if people are interested.

We should have everyone make a cd.. Then write a few words about each song.. Each person adds a write up and keeps sending it with the cd till it makes it home.. Then the person that owns the cd will have a cool write up from each person

However many people want in, we each make that many copies of our cds and then send them out. Then we all get a copy of everyone else's cds...and have a lot to talk about!

I like that Idea,

and Dave, that would require us all to use a CD-RW (re-writeable) and those can be a pain, especially if you are going from Windows Media Player to iTunes to whatever else..

If we do it to a "clearinghouse", then you send all your CDs there in one package, somebody gets the honor and privilege of unpacking them all and sorting and repacking one of each and resending back...OR, we all send one to everyone's address on the list. Probably need to limit this to no more than about 15 people...although if we do it the "clearinghouse" way, you can do more, but it becomes more and more of a burden on whomever is charged with being the shipping hub.

ya that's a good idea. like the first 15 have a go round this time then the next time first 15 and so on and so on. say like your top 12-20 songs per cd too would be a good idea.

I don't think he meant a write-up on a file on the disk. It would probably just be on a sheet of paper included with the CD.

Yeah thats what I meant. We all write up a small opinion on the songs.. Fw it with the CD to the next person.. This way everyone gets a idea of what everyone else thinks.. and by the time it makes it home the owner has a cool couple pages of opinions.. We all find a day and ship out a cd to the next person on the list..

The address would be hidden or PM'ed but I would send Doodle a CD She would send J Everett a CD.. and after a week we ship it to the next person.. on the list..

Well, that's part of the fun...for instance, I'm not going to be too stoked if somebody sends me 18 country songs, but who knows? And it will be interesting to try and boil it down to 18 or so songs...do I sample from across time and genre? Do I go with what I like most right now? go with a theme? The possibilities are endless...

OK so right now, we have 10 people who have expressed interest:

I propose we do this - if you're all in, PM me, include your mailing address and I will respond with mine. Once everyone has responded, I'll let everyone know how many we have, and we can make that many copies of the CDs, and you can all send them to me. Please use envelopes rather than jewel cases, just for economy's sake. I will sort them and send one of each to everyone, and then we can listen and discuss...Whether you choose to include notes, like Drb suggested, or discuss on the forum, or whatever, is up to you. Sound like a plan?

Rules: 1) Fill a CD - they take 18 normal-length songs, unless you put like Freebird on it, or side one from Pink Floyd Meddle...
2) put some thought in into it!

(I will be expecting at least a little chevelle from drb, for instance)

Oh yeah, one more thing - I propose once we do the exchange, we post up with a description of what the tracks are and why chosen...instead of writing it with the CDs...easier that way

I'm already planning my set list...lots of choices to make...do I go with my all-time faves, my faves right now...choices, choices...
Probably will divide between 10 or so of my current favorites, and the rest all-time faves from various phases of my musical journey...

So let me get this straight, we are only making one CD, then sending it to ONE person, who then later will send that to someone else.. and so on?

or is it 15 CD's?

Depending on participation, it will be X copies of your CD, with X being the number of people agreeing to participate, and every person gets back a copy of every other person's CD. So, if there's 10 of us, you'll send out 9 CDs, all the same, and get back 9 different CDs, from the nine other people....make sense?

^not unless we are selling the music. I took a class in college about this. For non profit things, it can be done.

If I were to "sell" them, then that is illegal or in regular terms, bootlegging..
