Can You Get To The Nutserts From Inside?

I discovered today that a couple of the screws holding the roof rack fairing in place turn freely, but won’t come out. I’ve read that the nutserts go through the roof. Are they accessible from inside? I need to get a vise grip on them to get them out and replace them, but the factory service manual doesn’t go into detail on the mounting.

Most of them, Yes. There's a couple that wind up inside the stiffening members of the roof. Those you'll have to cut open an access hole to get to

Well that’s poop. Hmm, wonder if it’ll leak when it rains. I tried lifting the front of the fairing, but there’s a piece of plastic in the way of the nurtsert. So no access there. Maybe I’ll remove the wet basket and see if I can get in from there.

Okay, here’s a dumb question. If the nutserts are loose, will water leak in and onto the headliner? Or is there some sort of drip rail or inner roof that is sealed?

Well, I ordered some new screws from the local stealership and picked up some faux carbide burrs from the local Hazard Fart store. Time to start grinding.

I think I’d try tack welding them in and silicon to seal it or just ripping them out before trying to cut it out with a carbide burr. A bolt and a slide hammer should take it out. You’ll get a little damage
