I am posting this for PICS ONLY but if you have built your own mounts or anything then please link that here as well.

POST YOUR TRAIL RIDING CAMERA SETUP. (Tell us what is pictured as well so others can look into the setup)

Here is my GoPro Hero3 on a Panavise Suction Mount.

I am also making one of these to mount my kodak Playsport waterproof camera on the roof basket for another angle.

Nice! I've really only used my gopro with the gp suction cup mount about where the rear view mirror is, the video is ok for there gives you an in car feel or sure, too dirt right now to play with other options, might put it up on the gobi once it warms up and see how that goes

I foresee lots of nice pics and ideas coming to this thread. I've been toying with the idea of getting a gopro for a while just don't know if its going to be worth the money to me with as little as I think I'll use it. Maybe this thread will convince me otherwise.

I'll try to get some pictures posted up later. I use my GoPro Hero HD on the suction cup mount it came with and a Sony CX130 for other video. I also have a GoPro mount on helmets for my dirt bikes and street bikes.

I see folks are mounting cameras on the exterior. Is this due to 1) the glare caused by the windshield if mounted on the dash 2) not have the possibility of the hood blocking the shot due to the angle or 3) the problems of mounting it to the dash?

I've got what I feel is a pretty good mini cam and would rather mount it inside.

I usually mount it to the main hoop on my front bumper, but it can be mounted on any round stock, The top part is from a tripod so it is adjustable in both plains and any camara can be fitted to it, The mounting base is a pair of heavy muffler clamps with bit of 16g bent and welded between them

Not the best picture, but last trail ride I had a generic clamp with a gooseneck and hung the GoPro Session underneath the back of the vehicle. I was able to control it with my phone to start/stop recording. I have a Hero 8 Black as well, but since I was last in line I was worried about it falling off and not knowing for a while, and figured the Session was more expendable.

I got this video of smacking my rear diff. I didn't know I caught it until the video:

An inexpensive alternative to the GP is this little gem:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XRNCT25/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then to mount it on the air dam, and because I do not trust the plastic buckle mounts to last long in the sun, I bought this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XRNCT25/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The plan is to mount that on the air dam, and then slide the plate onto the mounting block whenever I want an outside shot straight ahead. I still have the suction cup mount, that is fantastic (so far), for inside or on the side of the Xterra or facing backwards... Wherever I want it and it will grip.

The second link was the same as the first. Any issues with that camera or any areas where it's noticably worse than a GoPro? I imagine it doesn't have smoothing, but you can always do that after the fact. I do have a suction mount as well, but I'm hesitant to use it on the side on a tight trail.

Maybe this link will work better:

I rented a GoPro 2 years ago, and in comparing this camera to a GP... this one is much easier to operate. It has fewer "adjustable" choices so in that respect it is like a point and shoot camera. It does have image stabilization which is decent. So since I don't have a GP, I really can't say where it would be worse. I just like how simple it is to operate, and at 1/3 the price of a GP any lacking points become moot for me.

I've run a bunch of SJCams, way cheaper than GoPros, yet still pretty good image quality. Was almost impossible to tell the difference between my SJCam and my buddies GoPro Hero 4 (I think it was).

I think GoPro has improved a lot recently with the higher-resolution stuff (ie: 4k), but at 1080p, for the price difference, it is hard to justify the GP.
