PMLs aren't bad. They are just tedious because of the adjuster bolt on the torsion bars. It can be done solo (rust permitting) in about 4.5 hours. If you haven't been, go ahead and PB that ish.

well currently I dont have a free weekend until I head back to school, so it might just wait until May

If the shackle hardware isn't rust welded... it can go by pretty quick. I recently did a PML where the lower shackle mount was seized in the bushing and had to torch it out...turned a couple hour project into a 2 day affair.

Nice thing about the PML is you can just swap the shackles on and drive it around until you have another chance to adjust the front end up. The shackles are the only thing that would prevent drivability...so you can kind of do it in stages if you are short on free time.

I'm not too worried when I did my BL everyone said the same thing but all the bolts came right out so we will see

Anyone lend a hand? one of the guys on NEXterra told me when I do my shackles I should replace the bushings on the leaf springs. Now I have no idea which ones lol

yeah...bushing goes in the leaf spring and bottom shackle bolt goes through it. No need to replace it unless the bushing has to be destructively removed to get the stock shackle out.

Thanks guys for the quick comebacks.

But since today I had to call in sick from work I got these all painted up. Hopefully I'll get them on the truck this weekend

its probably overkill but up here in the land of the rusty north when we do shackles, if we don't replace the bushings we will take a sanding drum on a dremmel to the steel sleeve to remove the rust, blow it out with compressed air or brake fluid cleaner, shoot some spray paint in it and grease the piss out of the shackle bolt when its reassembled. Just try to keep everything moving.

I didn't replace them when I did my PML. I just added a little hi-temp grease and off I went, lol! I imagine they hadn't been changed before I did the lift and they were fine when I sold it 20k later.

Why were you guys trying to pull it backwards? From the looks of it, pulling it forward would have been easier.
They couldnt get a straight pull on it and the front was way too buried. They weren't pulling right and cuz it was my first run with them my opinion got over looked
that was a strange looking recovery on that bogged X. i though the the rear axle was gonna shear off.
That was the fear at first the springs were completely flat.

So some small updates, the X had to go into the shop on Sat, my rear drivers side tire was against the rear corner.
I forgot to grab a pic but it ended up being my center pin being sheered.

I would have fixed it myself but we havent seen the sun in over a week, and the snow is piling up more and more. I think we are at a total of like 3 feet so far on the ground.

That sucks about the pin. The Instagram hate is hilarious though. I had to do the same thing the other day at work because there were NO other spots. Don't hate on us because we can do it and your Prius has to park 5 blocks away.

wow, it's been a while since I checked your build. Great progress first off. Love the tire carrier. Adds a lot

Second off with the proper equipment they could of pulled ahead. But it's easy to say that from the keyboard. They key is if it's your vehicle make sure you speak up and it is done right. If it's there vehicle voice your opinion and if it's overlooked just make sure no one will get hurt.

I wish I had snow to play in.

No you don't we have been overloaded with snow lately.

Ok this isn't an update to the X more of an update to plans I have.

If you havent heard, I'm planning on doing the 2k roadtrip to GONEmoab in May of 2016. I was thinking on how I would do it. I though about just getting a rooftop tent but I want to have an option to leave the campsite if I want so I wanted a home base.

I have become very envious of Metzican's Tear drop as it is slowly getting put together. So I devised a plan a few weeks ago. I have been watching CL for a M416 Military Trailer. And as luck has it they are all expensive.....

Now today. I have decided to turn a 2k road trip into a dream I've had as a child.
Roadtrip_zpse93a46e8.png

This is what I am doing
1. Mt Rusmore
2.Seattle Washington
3.San Francisco
4.Los Angeles
5.The Grand Canyon
6. GONEmoab
7.Denver

And how you might ask? With this!

Because a tear drop is way out of my budget, and I love the look of the Expedition trailers.

There will be a build thread on it in the coming weeks. I already put the wheels in motion
