Bizarre Ipod interface issue

So, I bought a used 2011 xterra Pro4X. Love the vehicle, but as everyone else says, the Ipod interface is a pile of garbage.

Heres where I get my weird situation though. I have 2 ipods- an Ipod classic (which should charge off the old 12 volt system), and a 3rd generation touch. Both, when attached to the interface do not charge. However, they do not say "charging not supported". In fact, with the classic, it makes it clear it IS connected, but does not charge. Not big deal, I bought the Scosche charging adapter, but it does the same thing. No charging, but connects. I have a an iphne 5s, but a friend has an iphone 4s. It had the same reaction. No charging, plays music, but does not EVER indicate that this accessory is not supported for charging. Whats going on? Of 4 apple iphone and ipod devices of varying ages, of which this should work, I cant get ONE to charge, not ONE to show me the telltale "charging not supported" window. How the bloody heck can I get this damn thing to charge an ipod? Is it possible my Scosche is defective? I got it off amazon.

Its more than likely the software or dirty/damaged electronics. There are thousands of similar reports with similar systems ranging from a conventional computer to high end BMWs.

Are your ports clean on your devices and wires? Which cable are you using? In some cases, the type of cable you use (third parties) or audio system (your radio) may not be compatible due to variances in software.

Let me give you my examples. I have an aftermarket Pioneer radio with USB for my i______. I have the original iPod Mini (2004), a 1st and 3rd gen iPod Touch, a 1st gen iPhone and the iPhone 4. Starting with just the basics, my iPhone contracts more pocket lint than anything else I own. It was so bad, that I couldn't even get the charger in the port. Clean that sucker out every so often, especially if you sweat. Next, since I still have my iPod mini, I also have the old charger for it. Because of software updates and the like, that charger will NOT charge ANY of my other iPods/Phones. Like I mentioned, software caused this. This is the same with radios. When you purchase an aftermarket radio or part, it will often come with a list of devices it will work with. With the endless stream of new products and updates, it is nearly impossible for them to keep up with the software. When I first got an aftermarket radio for an older truck, my first iPhone, Mini, and Touch worked fine, but then I got a 3rd gen iPod Touch for free and it would not charge. Fast forward two years to when I got the Pioneer. I have yet to try it with a iPhone 5 (S, C, whatever). There is a chance it will work. There is a chance it won't. There is also a chance it won't work with the next update on my iPhone4. I can already tell you it doesn't work with my Mini. Redundancy: Software.

So in the end, my guess would be a software issue, but it is possible you have a defective or dirty parts. Scosche isn't really the highest end of audio companies, but I do have some of their stuff and for the most part, they work.
