As I'm sitting here, taking a break from a "cool" (22*F) mid-winter ride, I got to thinking about how few pics and vids I've seen from the biking-enthusiasts here at XN. Whether it be road, mountain, BMX, whatever, I want to see your cool biking pictures and videos!

Decided to go for a ride today, first ride in a long time. I wish I had brought along my cyclometer, I have no idea how many miles I did but I was out for about 3 hours. It'd be cool to know how fast I was going on the downhill sections too...I was able to get some pretty good speed up, which was a blast! Here's the pics I managed to take:

Brr...gonna be a cold ride!

Taking a break near the trail marker:

Found a cool bridge near the trail marker to prop the bike on:

Lots of ice on these trails, made things interesting for sure:

Found a stump to prop the bike on while taking a rest:

The mesh goggles actually worked really well to cut the cold air, and even cut the glare from the sun:

Posing by the X before packing it in for the ride home:

All in all, had some great riding today. I'm not ashamed to admit that I had 3 crashes. One moderate, one small, and one tiny. I knew they were all coming though, so had time to prepare and decide where and how I wanted to land, haha, ice and high rates of speed just don't mix. But man, the adrenaline was flowing hard while I was cruising down hill over patches of ice and launching off of rocks. Had a great time, and no injuries or damage to the bike, which is always a good thing.

Nice dude, I did a short 10 min ride 20 mins before the sun went down, really wanted to get a ride in today, you have to realize i live next a mountain with undeveloped housing land and single track and 4wheeler trails near by. It was FREAKING COLD!

It supposed to snow tomorrow if doenst maybe Ill get the gopro out and film the short trail run.

Nice, sounds awesome! I look forward to the video. It was cold here too, the sunshine was warm but there was also lots of wind gusts. I was worried the cold air would slow me down, I had bronchitis a long time ago and it left me with lots of scar tissue in my chest...cold air breathing has been a problem ever since. Didn't bother me today though, I think the helmet and bandana over my nose and mouth helped.

I tried rigging up some sort of cam mount today but my hardware pile is pretty low at the moment...time to go shopping at work I think. There's some awesome trails near me, slow-and-steady trails are my ride of choice, but the downhill sections I ripped down today were a blast...I want to find more of them!

I guess I forgot to mention in my post that this was the first time I've ever ridden in the winter, despite living in New England. Had such a good time, I'll definitely make it a new regular winter activity.

I started building a pair of camera mounts today at work...a chest mount for my Droid, and a bar mount for my digital camera. If all goes well, I should be able to blow this place up with video :D

Ah, that's no good man. Get well soon! As soon as I got home I had took a dose of Bayer Back and Body, and a double-dose of Emergen-C. Either I got lucky, or the Emergen-C actually did some good.

Nice ride BTW!

I need some mesh goggles. Where did you get yours?

The mesh goggles only happened because I'm too po' to buy real goggles. I had an old airsoft mask kicking around that I never used anymore because my airsoft gun crapped the bed a while ago, and I decided to take it apart and use the goggles. I didn't expect them to work as well as they did, so I'll be keeping them around for sure.

Check these sites though. Not sure if they have mesh goggles but I'm sure at least one of them will have regular lense goggles.

Price Point <-- Killer deals on top-of-the-line components
Nashbar <-- Big selection from beginner-level to pro, pretty good deals. Their $100 frame is the same one I've got and it's incredibly BA for a $100 no-name frame.
Performance Bike <-- Very similar to Nashbar

Nice pics! Amazon had a deal on the Contour roam for $89 right before Christmas so I should have some video to add in the coming months. Here is my stable, Iron Horse SGS DH pro with 8" up front and 8" in the back, like riding a couch. Only good for places with a chair lift cause it weighs in at about 40 lbs. Behind it is the other tank, that I use for urban trials, dirt jumps and park, older model Trek Bruiser. I haven't done much riding in the last couple years because my 3rd bike has a throttle but I plan to change that coming up in the spring.

Sweet rides! When I was building my current MTB I was considering building a DH for the simple fact that I know I'd never ride hard enough to break it. I've tried a couple full suspension rigs, but I just don't like the feel of the rear suspension. I like my hardtail because I can always tell when I'm planted, I just couldn't find that feeling on the FS rigs.

Sent to you from my very own piece of East Coast paradise.

I'm with you. I use the trek as a xc but its heavy. I prefer a hardtail for in the woods for the responsiveness. I have a more of a bmx style of riding with the seat all the way down and very little sitting. I need to get a dedicated xc bike but man are they expensive these days. My dads latest was close to 3k. I can buy a dirtbike and not have to pedal for that much!

Going out again today for some more riding, I might try a new trail that I'm pretty excited about. I'll also try out my new DIY cam mounts, not sure how they'll work but I'll find out soon enough. Pretty stoked about the new trail, it's a snowmobile trail, and about 95% downhill :D

Not looking forward to the ride back to the truck though...haha

Check back this evening for pics and vids...

EDIT: Well, the trail that I was told was all downhill turned out to be 75% up, 25% down, with the downhill part being at the very end; all just hard-packed dirt that changed to pavement...I was pretty disappointed (and exhausted) by the end of that ride. I remembered my cyclometer this time, so I got to see that I got up to 37mph, which was fun. None of the videos came out well at all, my mounts need some work. I've got a couple pics but they're nothing special.

I only rode a total of 6.38 miles, but considering how much of the time I spent trudging uphill and/or through mud and snow, I felt like I rode 638. I was beat! Had a good time though, the weather was beautiful, 48 sunny and no wind. All-in-all, not a super-enjoyable ride but at least I got some hill climbing practice in. Having not ridden in so long, I've fallen way out of shape and lost all endurance I once had. Not thrilled about that. I'm going to turn an old MTB in the garage into an indoor trainer for the basement.

Trainers are great, ive got one set up in front of my ps3 usually ride for an hour while i play it,

I did manage to take my gopro out the other day, stupid me forgot to flip the recording style back over from upside down from it being in the truck, and well i cant even watch the video to edit it down because it makes me sick, nothing better than flying in a jet upside down the whole time LOL, anyway yeah i know what you mean about 75 up and 25 down thats about what i deal with around here, so im sure my video isnt very exciting.
