It is addictive.
I don't have the patience to WAIT for the builders to finish stuff/to save up for village parts, etc....so its AGONIZING to wait for me at least. It teaches patience.
There's a lot of strategy/planning involved to balance what you DO decide to build-up or wait on.
Right now, it can cost (me) anywhere from 200k to 1 mil for ONE BRICK in a wall....and for the same $, you could upgrade a warrior or a defense, etc.
So, would you rather kill attackers with another 10 damage per second with a tower, etc, or, add a brick to a wall?
The towers are sexier, but, w/o a good wall, the attackers break though and wreck the sexy new tower...and so forth.
I could spend a week waiting for a rage spell that can make all MY attackers stronger and faster, but only for a little while at a time...or, wait that week for ONE of my attackers to be upgraded to be stronger/faster all the time...and so forth.
In the long run, upgrading as many things as possible (5) will get me stronger faster....but, if too many weapons are under construction at the same time, its too easy for raiders to get through and steal elixir and gold, etc, that are being saved up for the NEXT build project, so, which to do at the same time to compromise between a fast build-up and surviving raids....and so forth.
Some bases are less vulnerable to some types of attack and more vulnerable to others...so the troops you choose to attack them can be quite different, and, therefore, the troops you choose to upgrade should be different as well...so it can take (lately) 12 DAYS to upgrade ONE warrior, so, WHO gets picked for THAT wait? There might be 3-4 wars while waiting, all with a couple of bases each, all with different strengths and weaknesses, for example....so you pick dragons to upgrade, and find your next opponent has awesome air defenses and dragons will be cut down too easily and you should have gone with PEKKA, etc.
A LOT of decisions....all with consequences.

If you leave your collectors/mines where they can snipe at them from afar and get some loot w/o raiding you entirely, they come by and milk a bit but you don't lose much in the overall scheme of things...its helps to save more at least.
I'll do it so they can hit ~ 1/2 the gobble mines and ~ 1/2 the elixer collectors w/o dying if smart...and that way for the cost of a few archers, they can milk off a few hundred total.
When I started out, I had even mines, etc, inside. They HAD TO blitz the entire village to get TO the gold/elixir. They go even MORE nuts for DARK elixir btw.
Now, pumps and all that go outside, so they can get a sip w/o needing to invade in a full blown raid...but the STORAGE goes inside, so if they are greedy, they WILL have to spend a few hundred troops to try to get it.
I make that as hard as possible, so that they have to weight the cost to train them all against how much they might steal.
I can only IMAGINE what its like in YOUR stratified air up their.....I have L5 hogs in the oven that won't be out for another 14 DAYS or so, and THAT seems insane already.

At this point everything is slow cooked pork when I upgrade, lvl 6 Teslas take 10 days. My fastest upgrades other then walls are my barb king and arch queen both of with currently take 3.5 days.
I've already maxed out the defenses, every upgrade for a TH9 weapon/defense is done already...with the exception of the king and queen if we count them as weapons/defense instead of as troops.
I have the king to 7 and the queen to 5, but with the new hog use, I had to up the Dark Elixir pumps to Dual L6's as I blew the DE saved to upgrade them (Royals) further....and can see I'll need a lot of the dark stuff.
I have not upgraded my troops much in comparison, except maxing the wizards, dragons and PEKKA. I have yet to use a balloon, wall breaker, etc. The dark troops stop at hogs (L2 Barracks only there). And a lot of walls are still pink...
Its so hard to compare buying a brick or two vs upgrading a troop or spell, etc....so, I tend to blow off the walls.
On the plus side, the walls DO give instant gratification, click, and POOF! new brick upgrade...........no WAITING and WAITING....

Just changed up my base layout. hope this one will let me save up enough gold to upgrade my castle to level 6. I wish I would be at a leel comparable to some of you guys on here

Sync it to your computer or the cloud so you have a backup
If you are on a apple device it is synced to your apple id so you don't lose it if you are using an android device you can sync it to your gmail/google plus account.

How much, if any, do you all use G+? Was thinking we could add each other so we can post outside of the game, or let us all know when war is about to happen (for those that don't log into the game that often).
I've got more than one account but I really only use one of them (G+) anymore... Even still, it's kinda rare these days also because of the move across country. But, I would still have messages pop up on my phone if someone sent one out.
Just a thought.
(figured Facebook or phone numbers may be a bit much personal info for some to want to give out to people they really don't know outside of a video game)

I did a clubX search too, nothing.
A few of us think it sounded vaguely familiar, but no one could pin it down as being someone. Maybe there's a dev, and a name like macland, and we're combining them?

There's a movie with Adam Sandler where there's a character named devlin. And I'm the one and only Macland.
A lot of people are complaining that they have trouble with raiders stealing their stuff.
A trick I use for Elixir is to OVER TRAIN troops, so, if I HAVE elixir I don't want stolen by morning, etc....I train a bunch of troops way past what the camps will hold, which ties up many thousands of elixir in the BARRACKS...like a deposit in my elixir bank.
If raided, the troops trained/training in the barracks don't get lost, and, as your CAMPS are FULL, no trained troops from the barracks are sent to camps.
That means, after a raid, you have full camps, and, full barracks....and you can delete troops from training and get your elixir back if you need it to do an upgrade, etc. Like a withdrawal from your own personal elixir bank.
Obviously, you train troops with high elixir costs to train to maximize the elixir per barracks space ratios.
As elixir is the MAIN target (Same with Dark Elixir, which you can work the same way with dark troops...) typically, a village with low elixir levels is a lower priority, and they look for a target with more gooey purple or black loot instead.
So, overall, I find that this technique can help to reduce looting losses to what's in your collectors from the last time you drained them....and reduce the number of raids as your stats show lower elixir booty available to start with, etc. (Less in reservoirs, etc)

I just looked at your base:
Put your clan castle in the middle, so troops can come out when they go for gold. Right now, they are too far away to be drawn over reliably...only a little of the gold area is overlapped by their response circle.
Squeeze the 2 golds together in the middle with the archer towers all on one side and the canons on the other, and bring the other canon now outside back in.
I think your mortars and wiz towers are in good spots.
Your air defense is too far away from center, put it in the walls too somewhere.
Your huts are in corners, an iffy but common war time-wasting strategy, but not a good village strategy...put them just outside the walls to attract the gold raiders to attack them instead of anything more important, while you shoot at them.
I see you are already upgrading the gold storage...which increases its hit points, and, makes them look less full (NOW, they look like snow cones of gold...), as they hold a lot more and take more damage to steal from, as they get upgraded.
Obviously, if some high level raider wants your stuff, you will lose, its just the way it goes....but, the less attractive you appear as a target, the higher they'd need to be to choose you over an easier target.
If they are NOT hitting your TH and giving you shields, move the TH back into the walls....but if they hit it and leave w/o going for more....and you get a shield out of it, its worth it to leave it out.
The more trophies you LOSE on raids, the weaker the match you'll be when the are searching for matches...so weaker people will be the ones checking you out as a potential victim, a plus.
I don't know if you've attacked the goblin trail much, but, you do get decent loot from that, and its a good way to get a chunk of change to get you the last you need to finish an upgrade, etc.
Be tough and don't cry when they take your candy.

I've done what I can without major changes to my layout. Having the th outside has help several times but since I've gotten more gold people still seem to go for it. I just got back to 900k and my shield ran out again (funny how its always when I get my stuff back) so well see if this helps.
It does seem that most of the people hitting me are higher level and just destroy my defences.
After I start the th upgrade ill work on the walls so u can atleast have a larger area inside the gold.

On an unrelated note...
I was doing the Goblin attack thing, and the rewards were steadily climbing, I was up to ~ 800k/800k reward, and, on the time after that, all the options had dropped to ZERO/ZERO for gold/elixir....with maybe 2 giving 4k/4k or so, and that was it.
I clicked ALL of them to see what they paid, all the way to the top-most option, with only the 2 in the middle (Not at beginning or end) paying even 4k/4k, and the rest, nada...all the rewards were gone.
Did I screw up? It says I did 149 out of 150 attacks, but, there's no reward for ANY attacks left (I did the two that paid 4k just to see if it changed anything else, but, it didn't...), so, other than 20 gems for getting 150, I don't see the point?
What's going on? Anyone know?
