Hey everyone I'm out of Brooklyn NY, always wanted to get into Overlanding and have a bad habit of buying cars, just picked up a 2006 Xterra S which makes it 6 cars total and my wife is about to kick me out (will provide entertainment for couch surfing) lol. But really this is my "first" Nissan Xterra (learned how to drive on my fathers 1994 pathfinder and then his 2001.5 pathfinder) but I am an overall enthusiast and have been offroading twice so far once in Colorado with an FJ cruiser rental and one light Overlanding/camping trip in Alaska. I absolutely loved it and decided to pick up an Xterra due to no Toyota/Jeep tax for now atleast. The car i picked up is a bit beat up body-wise, originally from Texas and has been in NY since 2011 so not too much rust but there is sun damage to the clear coat and a few (a lot) of battle scars. Anyways I'm eager to learn what sites have proper parts and all the kinks and quirks of the vehicle. I know about the usual Trans cooler rad issue and the obvious timing belt which I need to change since the car goes taka taka taka lol.

Other vehicles I own
-07 VW Rabbit 2.5
-03 Mazda Miata 1.8
-01 Lexus LS 430
-84 Chevy S10 2.8 (About to be trashed)
-20 Mazda CX-30 (The lease for the wife)

Welcome from Denver. You've made a good call. Is your X an automatic or manual? If it's an auto, there's a few things to check on to ensure reliability.
Loved my trip to Colorado I stayed in a slightly familiar crime-ridden area that reminded me a little of NYC lol, Unfortunately, it's the Automatic it looks as if the radiator has been changed already but I most likely will be doing so again when I flush all the fluids and do the timing re-up. The only thing I have to figure out on that end is if it's good enough to just reroute the plumbing and add a fan to the external trans cooler. But plenty of other things to learn about the car while I play with it, currently just going to do preventive maintenance and bring back some of the interior missing parts like the rear cup holders. I'd be surprised if anyone ever drained the differential and 100000% no one touched the ATF. The guy I bought it from was a typical Russian construction worker (I too am Russian and used to work construction a long time ago lol) telling me how sick the car peals out with a beer popped open in one hand and a cig in the other.

Welcome!

A bypass isn't good for the transmission. The fluid-fluid cooler in the radiator is a lot more efficient than the fluid-air external. It will get you by till you can replace the radiator but you need to get the radiator cooler working again.

How many miles does it have on it?

Any recommendations for a worthy radiator replacement ?

THNX and that would be a direct replacement with the oil fluid to fluid cooling inside the radiator ?
Yeah. The original problem was incomparably with the coolant. All aftermarket and the OE replacements have updated materials.

I've had a Nissan Select replacement in mine for about 60k miles now without any issues.

even the "mod" companies like Mishimoto and CSF? but i will be looking into it everything needs to be flushed and obviously I'm not looking forward to the timing chain job

I don't think anyone but Nissan had issues. I don't know of any issues with an aftermarket radiator mixing the fluids.
