I hate to argue in a sweet build thread but it will run differently with just a resistor. The computer won't change the timing when it is knocking under heavy load when you are say towing up a hill so it will keep on knocking with the resistor in there.
Maybe it was just a placebo but it did seem to run a bit smoother after I ditched the resistor in favour of a new knock sensor.

When I only had a resistor in there, I could hear it knock once in awhile when we were loaded up with camping gear trying to make it through the mountains around here, but the last two trips since the new knock sensor and it has been much better.

Again, all I'm trying to say is don't do the resistor mod if you have the means to change the sensor. It is even more important with a supercharger.

Why would you want to trick the computer into not adjusting for an improperly performing engine?

I don't think any of us argue that replacing the knock sensor _isn't_ the right thing to do, it's just a huge hassle on this engine and is prone to breaking anyway due to its location.

For those who do wish to do something, I suggest the resistor mod for NA engines because it's easier. For SC engines, I suggest it be relocated. On the top of the intake is usually the suggested place due to ease, but it is less than optimal.
