And we will call this the Grey Wolf Edition

Damn you stole my color. Was going to do a flat grey on mine next year. Ok to have a twin genetically modified brother? You know what I mean.

It's kinda cool for a 'stockish' Xterra.. I mean, the snow is what makes that photo sweet.

Looks like the Grey Wolf had a fun day out in the crisp clean snow, tromping around and making fresh tracks.

No need to upgrade his computer with what we have planned. Simply opening up the exhaust, changing some sensors that went bad and maybe one or two other things that even he doesn't know about yet.....
:)

Been doing a ton of reading on that.
Some have success, some don't. Don't want to chance it, so that's next on the list. Just going to pull the SC and intake and replace it. Seems like the best option.

I did the resistor mod on my NA 2001 and ran it for a little while. I've since pulled the resistor and replaced the knock sensor and it runs a little smoother. I didn't see any change in MPG going from a bad sensor to the resistor to the new sensor. If you have the means, just replace the sensor.

Yeah, but that's the NA. From what I understand, with the knock code the SC gets nerfed.

Supercharged or not, it runs smoother with a properly functioning knock sensor so I was just recommending to change the knock sensor. Something with a supercharger needs one even more. If you put a resistor in it will still knock in certain situations but there won't be any adjustments made to correct it.
Just my 2 Canadian cents, don't cheap out put a new sensor in.

Yep, on an N/A motor is throws a code, and that is it. It doesn't do a thing to the motor or how it runs.
However,
On an S/C it makes a BIG difference. When the KS goes out, it doesn't let the SC boost more then 2 lbs, as apposed to it's normal 4 to 6 lbs. BIG difference.

Yeah, the sensor doesn't change how it runs, it merely sends a signal if the timing was too advanced, to retard it.

If it didn't ping or knock, there's no signal.

If it DID ping or knock, the sensor doesn't FIX the cause, it merely reports it, and, the CPU can degrade your performance.

IE: Unless the engine timing is so bad that it needs to be retarded, a properly functioning KS is not going to make it run more smoothly, etc.

The SC throttles it back, as mentioned, JUST from the KS being off line...so, that DOES benefit from a working KS.

The non-SC won't run any differently...as if there's no need to retard the timing due to knock...its as if you didn't HAVE a KS in the first place.

:D
