Oil Catch Can Install - Pic Heavy

I got around to installing the Oil Catch Can I bought. I got this one because it has a small baffle system and it is a nice heavy weight aluminum. This model can be found online (Amazon, eBay, Aliexpress, etc) for around $40.

23vkbuq.jpg

First thing I did was toss the cheap hose that came with the kit and got 2 feet of Goodyear 3/8" hose from AutoZone for $3.58. I also Picked up a piece of metal from HomeDepot. A Simpson Strong Tie 12" strap 12 gauge $2.97
1.jpg

2.jpg

Fuse & Relay area on the passenger side.
3.jpg

Unclipped the relay harness box and lifted it out of the way.
4.jpg

Removed the 2 10mm bolts. The first bolt was for a bracket that held the wiring harness against the side of the engine bay. I tossed the bracket because after my body lift it was a little tight and the wires aren't going anywhere. The second bolt holds the bracket that the relay harness box clips to.
5.jpg

6.jpg

After removing the bolts I bent the Simpson Strong Tie into a 90° angle to create a bracket. Then I drilled out the spots for the bolts and trimmed the new bracket down to size.
7.jpg

8.jpg

Replaced the bolts and put the relay harness box back in place and bolted it down.
9.jpg

The I removed the PCV hose off the back of the motor and replaced it with the longer 3/8" Goodyear hose I got from AutoZone. I reused a portion of the original hose for the return to the intake.
All finished. I'm interested to how much junk it catches.

I needed to replace a bad tire (a factory BFG Rugged Trail) and decided to go ahead and get a new set of 4. I went with the Wrangler Duratrac and sized up to the 285/75 16.
I had to remove my 1.5" wheel adapters to make sure they fit.

2" Spacer & Shackle Lift Kit Install

Today I installed a 2" front spacer, bump stops, camber bolts (Moog K80276) & rear shackle lift kit and then got it X aligned. Started at 9am and had the lift installed by 1pm.
At the front from the ground to the fender I'm sitting at 38" 1/2" inches and at the rear I'm sitting at 38" 3/4".

I had the best helper a guy could ask for. My 10yr old son Ethan.

ARMOR UPDATE: White Knuckle Rock Sliders - Ordered on 8/4/17, Delivered on 9/18/17 - U-Pol Raptor Lined & Installed 1/14/18

I finely got around to installing the White Knuckle Sliders I ordered last August. I ordered them as Bare Metal/DOM Tube (Stronger) with the 2" body lift option. I also opted for 10° degree angle instead of the standard 30°. My wife wanted a little more sticking out to use as a step in and out of the Xterra. I coated/painted them with U-Pol Raptor Bedliner.
It took 2.5 hours to install. Very happy with the way they turned out.

Rhino Extended Roof Top Basket / Roof Rack

This weekend I started working on a DepHep type roof rack basket.
I got my inspiration from the member Airmapper here is his roof basket build build post, I have photoshopped the first picture below and modified it to show what I would like my finished product to look like. The main reason I went with this design was I wanted a basket that goes the full length just pass the rear side rails without the extra bolt on option of the DepHep basket. I also like how clean the pipe brackets are that connect the basket to the side rails.

HBcDC.jpg

Here is my work so far. I am making it out of 16 gauge 1"x1" square tubing. I built the bottom still need to build the top rail and cut the post for it to sit on.
I purchased (3) 24' 1"x1" 16 gauge square tubing pre primed.
1"x1" 16 gauge square tubing cost $41.28 (didn't even use one stick so you could minus $13)
McMaster Vibration-Damping U-Bolts $35.40 + shipping

Roof Top Rack Basket Update:

Roof top Basket Update:

So I primed the rack with 2 coats of primer then I painted in with two coats of Rustoleum Hammered Paint to give it a little texture.
Overall I happy with the way it turned out. It was more challenging than I had anticipated but worth it in the end.

Headrest Grip Grab Handles

My son and a few passengers have complained that it is a little difficult to climb in and out of the back seats since I installed a 2" suspension & 2" body lift + the 285/75 16 tires. So today I installed a set of headrest grab handles. You see them a lot on Jeeps but the fit is pretty universal. I picked these up for $12. Took less then a minute to install and they work really well.

Lower Fender Mod for 1.5" Wheel Adapters / Spacers

Last year when I upgraded my tires to Wrangler Duratrac 285/75 R16 I removed my 1.5" hubcentric wheel adapters/spacers because the mod meld alone wasn't enough clearance. Well after seeing a couple post on the minor trimming, heating and cutting required by TurboChris & AlbatrossCafe I decided it was time to give it a shot. Getting the cutoff saw out and looking at the factory paint and metal was a bit daunting but once you make the first cut it is pretty easy.
Disclaimer: I have a 2" suspension lift & 2" body lift.

Before: You can see the 285/75 R16 clear but there is not much room.

HSupr.jpg

HSMUw.jpg

HSoPR.jpg

HSx31.jpg

During: With the spacers mounted you can see the clearance issue when turning.

HSbdW.jpg

HS6k0.jpg

HSvpS.jpg

HSw3M.jpg

Cutting: Like AlbatrossCafe did in his post. I cut a line/notch right below the bottom hole for the inter fender. I also cut a line/notch at the bottom of the fender. Then I took a rubber mallet and bent/rolled back the lower part of the fender into itself. Then I trimmed the plastic inter fender to fit the new shape.

Interior LED Lights Upgrade

I upgraded all the interior lights to 31mm 1.25" SMD 12-LED's. Man are they super bright at night.
To avoid any LED glow when the lights are turned off I solder a 1/4W Resistors 1% across the LED to create resistance in the circuit like the old incandescent bulb did.

Expedition One Front Bumper, 13000lb Winch & 3" LED 30w Fog Lights - Installed

Custom fog light bracket fabrication. Sorry they are very crude but they are rock solid and will get the job done. I went with 4" 30w LED aftermarket Jeep lights. I was able to make a slight modification to the plug so I was able to plug them in directly to the factory wiring.

MFo91.jpg

MFPgS.jpg

Test fitting everything together. I installed the winch control box under the hood behind the driver side head light. To make room I relocated the horns to the front of the radiator support. They are hidden behind the the bumper.

MFuzy.jpg

MFy4A.jpg

Finished results, with a fold up license plate kit covering the winch opening. The only thing left is I'm going to get a 2" wide 3/16" flat bar to go just under the bumper to fill in the gap from the 2" body lift and skid plates.

Before installing the bumper I restored the finish on my head lights. What a difference!
I used 1000, 5000 & 10000 grit wet sand paper and then polished with Mothers PowerPlastic 4Lights. I still need to clear coat them.

MFkBv.jpg

Most 2007 - 2016 Jeep Wranglers use 4” fog lights. I went with them just because there are so many aftermarket options. I got a set of amber 30w each LED off of Amazon for $50. They are super bright and have a wider throw pattern then the Xterra fog lights. I really like the sharp cut off as well l, so they don’t hit on coming Drivers in the eyes.

MFNGw.jpg

The fog lights I got had the connector below that plugged into the lights and harness.
All I did was cut away the out plastic and then was able to plug it directly into the factory harness. I added a zip-tie around the connection to make sure it didn't com undone. The only thing you have to do is make sure you have the polarity correct for the LED's. If they don't work just swap the plug around.

Recovery Traction Track Boards

This summer I'm traveling from TX to Frisco, NC (OBX). I plan on driving on the beach, so I figured I had better bring a set of recovery traction track boards just in case.
Now I have to figure out how I'm going to mount them to the roof basket.

I know these are a knock offs but I liked these over most because they have the replaceable studs like some of the name brands.

The mounting holes were slightly off. I day to drill them out about a 1/4" on each side.

You can see I also notched the rubber a little so that the bolt and washer fit closer.

The factory nuts stripped out when I was removing the old bump stops. It was easy to simply drill them out and just add a longer bolt and new nuts on top.

Overall they were really easy to install and seem like a good upgrade/option when you lift the rear suspension and need extended bump stops.

Installed: NINEO Gen 2 LED Headlight Bulbs 9700

I took the plunge to try a pair of 9700 LED headlight bulbs. I did a lot of researched to find a pair that were made for reflector housings and had a good cut off.
Here is a great website to reference. https://www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/chart/
In the after picture the light is hitting a little higher but that is because I am about 5 to 8 feet closer. I didn't realize I parked closer till after I loaded the pictures on my computer. The LED's are brighter and much whiter.
