Airbag light flashing after (partial) submersion :(

I did this to my X a few days ago. At first my ABS light was on, my "Set" light for CC was flashing and the Airbag light was flashing while submerged and afterwards. After I turned it off and on (a few hours later) the ABS light turned off and the CC Set light stopped flashing. The Airbag light continues to flash.

Any ideas with what I might have killed and how I may be able to repair it? Maybe some of you more experienced submariners can help me out. :)

The air bag sensor is on the front radiator support right under the hood latch, maybe unplug and replig that in and check the wires, when it flashes that means its disabled... If that doesn't work you will probably need to take it to a body shop to be read, have you checked all fuses?

Water is cab, yes. From the angle of the truck I have a mudline inside the truck that covers 1/2 way up the front door speaker (but the speaker still works!). It wasn't that bad but any water inside the truck is kinda bad. :p

Luke: I'll check fuses and check the sensor. If the light is flashing are all airbags disabled (or maybe just the passenger side since I was on that side)?

You'll need to but the SRS module in debug mode so it'll tell you what the error is. Procedure is on Pg. 29 of the FSM (www.nicoclub.com/FSM/xterra/2004_Xterra/srs.pdf#page=29)
Turn truck to ON (do not start)
SRS light will come on for 7 seconds
Turn off within 1 sec of it going off
wait 3 seconds
Lather rinse 3 times

Once in diag mode, the light will come on for 7 seconds, off for 2, on for 3, then give the blink code.
Slow Flash: stored code not cleared or intermittent
1: Passenger pretensioner
2: Driver Airbag
3: Driver pretensioner
6: Crash zone sensor
7: Airbag diagnosis malfunction (not the bags, but the computer)
8: Passenger Airbag

If you don't get the 3 second light, but two shorter ones, then the side curtains are at issue. My complete WAG is either the crash sensor or the passenger pretensioner.

I bet your alternator is shot! Last year at the shocker run i went through some water (wooder as we say in jersey) and then we attended the raffle. It was so cold out that i ended up having whatever liquid was in my alternator freeze. Actually everything was frozen, e-brake, regular brake lines. I ended up having my air bag light come on. Well the next day at the KOA it sure did die. Killed my battery seeing that i was running straight from the battery to power the truck.

This be true observant one! :squW00shy:But could still be the issue even if he isn't sunk in the water in this photo he could have went through other water as well.

Snickerdoodle: I'll inspect my alt.
Luke: I'll check fuses and cabling.
Muadeeb: I'll try to get a debug code.

Thanks for all of the information y'all! :D

Hey y'all! I ran the debug sequence to get the code; I never got any code, just a slow flash that never ended.

I turned off the X before starting it up and when I turned it on the Airbag light was OFF. It has not returned. Thanks again for all of the info!!

Just sounds like you got a connection wet that did not like it. Most situations like that will sort themselves out after everything dries out.
