Airbag Emblem Recall 23V-067

Anyone else see this?

A detached emblem and/or retainer component may become a projectile during an airbag deployment, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

Running my VINs at the NHTSA.gov site, both the '06 and '09 come up with this recall. But when I run them on Nissan's site, there's no recalls listed.

Kind of a moot point right now anyway since they don't seem to have a remedy ready yet, but I was wondering if anyone else had looked into this.

Weirdly I was notified by Nissan about it when I emailed them to update my address for recalls so they would stop sending them to my parents house.

I've been wanting to replace the steering wheel with one without an airbag anyway. This may move this thought along quicker to fruition lol.

Interesting that on the news the Fed g'ment is saying that all steering wheel emblems on all cars be removed. Guess Nissan's are not the only one with a problem.

Just had my NYS inspection last weekend and noticed it's the same emblem recall. Weird that it's coming up now in the inspection flags for how old it is.

Just buy another airbag and tape it on over the emblem, so if the first one goes off and frags the emblem, the second can go off to protect your face.

Follow-up.... PASSED!!!! No need to get new parts.
Got to Woodman Nissan about 7:45 and got right in. By 9:45 the X was ready for pickup.

Lots of extra things were checked: tread depth, tranny fluid, brake fluid, etc. and some recommended "work" items (my regular shop takes care of all that) and finally I got an estimate for a MAF TSB ($245) since you have to use a Consult computer to check/do the TSB. That is going to wait for a while.

Lots of Pioneer Woman Cooking shows too. :D

But make sure you clamp it down tight and face it towards the other airbag. Gotta send the shrapnel back where it came from. Who wants an airbag in their face anyway? Blocks your view of the action!

Nissan dealership has been calling me for two weeks. Finally answered and it's the same as you guys are talking. Said something about a replaced airbag could be the culprit.. I don't have a replacement that I know of. I'll drop it in a few days.

Service guy told me it was a two step process.
Step 1 - Inspect to see the number on the back side and see if it needs replacing.
If OK to go, like mine was, you are done.
If you have one that needs replacing, they have to order it because Corp is tracking just how many airbags/medallions are defective.
Step 2 - Return to get the airbag replaced.

Crazy it's been a year since I posted this. I got a couple postcards about it recently and probably should follow up and see if there's anything that needs to be done now that they seem to have a fix.
