I just got my first Xterra, a 2012, and the first thing I'd like to do is get a swing type tire mount where the tire is at over the rear gate like the old Izuzus. Does anyone know where I can get something like that? I'm in western NY and am having a hard time finding something like this online or local.

best option is to buy a bumper with swing out tire mount. There are a number of companies that sell them; hardcoreoffroad, shrockworks, maxgear, hefty fab (I think). I’ve seen people post about using one that mounts to the hitch receiver, don’t know how secure I would feel about that.

This is the right answer. It's the steel bumper with a tire carrier. I have the Shrock (wish I had a MaxGear aka Maxterra).

Thank you, I really appreciate your time.

I have a Maxgear on order. Two buddies I wheel with have them and they're really nice. Probably the premier unit.

Another buddy has the Shrockworks and he's been pretty happy with it.

The gas and water can carriers were what made me choose the Maxgear.

Did you ever find one? What brand did you use? I’m looking for one, too. I like the Hefty Fabworks one, but the price is high. Calmini has a nice one, for considerably less.

They USED to be good, don't get me wrong. But for the last decade or so they've taken so much money from people and never responded or provided the parts you order.

PRG can be that way too and no one knows what's up with Nisstec right now. Our list of "trusted vendors" is dropping like flies.

It’s sad when that happens. I actually talked with the owner, I can’t remember his name, of Hefty Fabworks, and he mentioned that Nisstec is going through some changes… what does that mean? Idk. But hopefully they can get it sorted out soon.
