Welp, been busting through the snow lately, everything is all fun and games. Started the X up in the morning and all the lights were on, and doesn't engage into 4wd. UGH. Ive heard it could be the ABS sensor. Sadly, its sunday and im about to head up to Lake Placid. Hope I can still drive the truck. Going to hose it down before I head out just in case the sensor is dirty.

Loose wiring or dirty sensor. I was going up a hill coming back from school and all of a sudden the ABS light came on. The next morning it went off. I'm guessing that the snow went on the wire and caused that to happen, but the next morning when the snow melted it was fine? Idk...

Probably failing sensor or a bad wheel hub bearing assembly, if you are interested I have two wheels sensors (used) for sale that I was told they are working, $30 each or $50 for the pair shipped.

Here's the scoop....took it in to have the work done at a local shop. Front left ABS sensor sheared off at plug. They called Nissan for the harness wire cause it was sheared off at the plug at the hub and this is what they were "told". That I need the entire ABS drivetrain assembly because the harness is not replaceable on its own. $700. What a crock of ****. the guy hard wired the harness to the hub attachment (HUB is a few months old) and shrink wrapped it, bypassing the plug all together. I had this done because #1 I can't do it by myself and #2 I didn't wanna go all over town from shop to shop.
QUESTION: have I screwed myself by having it done this way?

You're fine for now, but I would grab a new sensor ($85) from a parts vendor and go by a junk yard and grab the harness end to repair it.

I just don't understand how the wire from the harness being sheared off at the plug could mean I need an entire ABS Assembly. I think either the shop knew its a quick fix and very little time for the mechanic to make $$$ so he just used the excuse of a $700 fix (retail) or just charge me soley for labor going all to the mechanic. If the harness wires are sold separately, why was the mechanic told by Nissan that I need an entire assembly???
Im baffled. . f-ing baffled. Me thinks im gonna take a trip to Nissan and ask a mechanic there.

So you mean that where it screws into the back of the front wheel bearing the wire is sheared there correct? If so just get another sensor to replace it and splice it into the system. Then if you want to reinstall the plugs you can do that at a later date.
