Abs Light

So I have a 2003 XE with the 2.4 manual transmission. I have a ABS light and I have been to 2 shops and neither could use a scan tool and communicate with the ABS system to find the fault. The fuse is good and there is power. So my guess is the module is "mammeries aloft". I am guessing the only module, computer is the one under the hood on the driver side bolted to the ABS pump is this correct? Also if that is the case, can the module be removed from the pump assembly without losing fluid in the pump assembly?
As I am hoping if that can be done you can by plenty of used modules complete with pump assembly for not much. But hoping to be able to just swap the module for as cheap as it is.

TIA

When I still had ABS the light would almost always go on after I wheeled the truck. Crap would get up in the front and interfere with the sensor. I’d just pull the front left and right sensors (easy, a 10mm? bolt and it comes right out), spray brake cleaner in there, rotate the wheel, spray in there again, put the sensor back and after a few miles the light would go off.

A “scan tool” doesn’t talk to the ABS on our trucks (you’d think at least one of those “shops” would know this).

If you want to diagnose the ABS you can use the ABS warning lamp. After driving over 20 MPH for at least one-minute turn ignition switch OFF. Then ground terminal 8 of your scan tool data link connector with a wire to the body. Turn ignition switch ON while its grounded.

Do not depress brake pedal

After a few seconds the warning lamp will start flashing to indicate the malfunction code. A long flash = 10, short flash = 1. So 2 long flashes followed by 1 short flash = 21, on my truck that is the Front right (passenger side) sensor.

25, front left, 31, rear right, 35, rear left.

The malfunction codes are on page BR-48 of the FSM for my 2001

A video that shows how is HERE

Video shows grounding terminal “9”, on my truck it’s “8”.

Well it turns out that is was just the 40 amp fuse for the ABS solenoid. Replaced and so far so good. Maybe just a little power glitch took out the fuse. Thanks for the assistance.
