I've been thinking about what to do for the license plate lights. The law says that light is required, but I haven't been pulled over yet. I have a few ideas, but I know that will be something to incorporate into the production bumper.

What is being done for license plate illumination? Personally, I think it would be a good time to copy Shrock and put a tab that holds one of the factory license plate lights.

That is something that is required in this communist state. I actually had a guy try to fail me on my state inspection because my license plate lights were "blue" and they have to be white. I had to explain to him that they were white, they were just a shade of white that you are not used to seeing.

That is a valid point, I am sure that you could talk James into doing that, it would open his business to others..

I am thinking that I am going to have to drive to KY in order to get mine.. Just seeing what I want isn't "normal"

Most motorcycle shops have license plate bolts with LEDs aimed down to light the tag. I used them on my Bronco when I put James Duff tube bumpers on it. You just have to be sure you have a place to run the wires and also keep in mind they tighten with nuts on the backside instead of bolt heads on the tag side.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to check that out.

I recently got a small package from James. Some rear recovery points I can use with my stock bumper. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get time to install them.

It's probably just going to be temporary. You know I'll have to have an RLC rear bumper as soon as funds are available.

I'm going to go ahead and give him a call this week to put a deposit down on a front bumper (maybe back too, wallet dependant). When I go to move I'm going to have the X in tow and I have to go right through Louisville, so I may see if he can go ahead put it on too... I don't know. More on that later I guess when I get it figured out.

So I called him up, he answered right away. I went ahead and placed my order and then shot him an email just to confirm. Unfortunately, I can't really go for the rear bumper as well, maybe later. I still have to buy the parts for my timing belt change, so that is higher on the priority list than the rear.

I'm not going to have him ship it, instead I'll pick it up while I am moving in October. I was going to have him mount it as I was passing through Louisville, but he recommended not to since I still have a 2-3 day drive after that and the bumper would still be raw (read: instantly rusting once a drop of water hit it). Instead I'll just load it up in the back of the Xterra or in the back of the moving truck if I have room. Now I'm just waiting for an email response back so I can go ahead and shoot him the money.

I probably should have waited until I paid or until he started production on it to write on here, but I may be a little too excited about it. My wife is going to want to kill me once I get home... She already thinks I am a lunatic for "just ruining a perfectly good SUV." She almost cried when I suprised her with the paintjob I did and then with the giant hole in the fender when I was mid snorkel install... This bumper business is not going to help change that mindset.

My wife thought I ruined the X too. It was the BL and 33's that really made things "rough".

Now she has learned how much joy I get out of making it a beast and has become accepting of my "destruction". :kewl:

Got some pictures of just the "guts" of the rear after I washed it.

This is the only front bumper that I actually like the look of and it has holes for foglights. If I get a rear bumper to this is what I'll probably get too.......now to decide if I should get a BL before I get them....

Hey XN, I need some help for a Frontier owner. A guy contacted me on YouTube asking if the first gen RLC bumper would fit on a 2002 Frontier. I know the factory upper metal part of the bumper for early first gen Xterras and Frontiers are the same but I'm not sure about the brackets that bolt to the frame. Shrockworks and TJM both say their bumpers fit either but again, I believe they both have separate frame mounts and main bumpers. Since the RLC is a one piece design I have no idea if it will work and I haven't been able to get measurements of a Frontier from the correct years. Does anyone know if the frame brackets are also the same between the two or does anyone own a first gen Frontier so we can compare measurements? This would not only help out the guy who asked about it but would also help James possibly expand his market base by quite a bit if it will work. Thanks.

first gen frontiers 99-04 share the same chassis so the bolt patterns and brackets are all the same measurements. I talked to james about a months back cause im going to order the xterra bumper for my 01 fronty. The main difference is that the factory bumper on the 01-04 frontiers stick out farther than xterras so if your buddy is going to have hoops installed it will be a close fit. I believe they stick out about .75" -1" farther out than the 02-04 xterras.

Can one of you guys do me a favor and measure the opening at the center of the bumper between that top tube and the fairlead mount?

So I received my bumper, went to another members house and we put it on. It's pretty damn stable, and I doubt it would ever come off. The only thing I see that is off (compared to pictures that people have on here) is that the bumper looks like it protrudes out from the truck more than it should. Those fog light holes on the steel bar that goes across the front, doesn't look as flush with the bumper like others do. I'm still completely satisfied with the bumper, just wondering if anyone has come across this before.

Also, without taking the vehicle to him to allow him to take measurements and all of that goodness, I'm very pleased with the outcome of the bumper.
