1st gen supercharged good idea?

And... I recently totalled my Xterra

Have a bunch of aftermarket parts that can be salvaged, so looking to replace with another 1st gen. Had 32s (KO2s) on it with Shrock bumpers, it was definitely a bit underpowered when loaded up. Thinking of maybe getting a 03-04 Supercharged...

Also, it seems all the used car posting are for the Supercharged ones, not sure where all the NA ones went?? Hoping to get something with low milage, found one 04 S/C with only 98,000km! Looks to be in mint shape, but curious if it's actually bad to get such an old vehicle with so little milage - I heard that engines actually wear out prematurely if they aren't driven much. This trouc would mean it only drove 7000km/year on average since 04... not much. Thoughts?

I think if I get an S/C I'll end up going with 33 sized tires for extra clearance. I'm guessing fuel economy will be non-existent :/

The VG33 is a bulletproof motor. Provided the maintenance is done. Timing belt and associated assundries every 105k miles. Adding the supercharger doesn't really affect longevity. Unless off course someone changed the pulley and was running a lot more boost than stock.

If I was to buy another 1st gen, I'd hold out for an SC.

I love mine. The general consensus is that people with SC trucks love them, and people who don't have them say they're problematic and more expensive to repair. There's barely a few extra pieces/SC specific pieces having an SC over an NA. Just an extra pulley+different AC belt, the automatic transmission is different (SHD), and the clutch is different for the 5MT, injectors, and I've been told the fuel pump is. Nothing in those parts are known issues, nor to be known to be less reliable then their NA counterparts. Clutch is a wear item and would typically need to be replaced eventually, but I'm on 250'000kms on my original clutch; having the truck since it had 76'000kms. The knock sensor, and just bad/old sensors affect the SC trucks much more in terms of power and fuel economy. I don't know why there's a big fuss about the SC trucks being problematic. I think it's more NA owners who are just afraid of them and propagate false rumors and hear-say from others. Nothing is perfect, and I'm sure there's a few lemons and trucks with an abused history, but maintained, they seem to be no more or less reliable. Other then people complaining that they require 91+ octane and are a tad less fuel efficient, but generally they're not fuel efficient to begin with and just have unrealistic expectations on fuel consumption in general. Accept this, and you'll be happy with that you get.
