05 Xterra - newbie - Engine runs but no power to drive

my daughter was driving down the highway and said the X lost all power - no clanks, grinding or anything. The engine runs fine but absolutely no power. It's an automatic and will shift into drive, reverse, etc., but won't go. Should I suspect it is the transmission or automatic clutch? Where do I begin to diagnose the problem?

Research SMOD . Look at your radiator fluid .

I have replaced the radiator and the cats - 6 months ago - and it has been purring like a kitten until now.

The engine is currently running smoothly but it doesn't do anything when you shift it into gear.

WE left it on the side of the road. I'm thinking something went wrong with the transmission but I wanted to get an idea from you experts before I tow it home or directly to a mechanic or transmission shop. Thoughts?

I got almost 2 year's outta my trans after it developed SMOD before it took a $hit .

I agree with the above, when you open the radiator, does it appear like it should? have you had transmission issues before?

There's no way to say with any certainty without having it looked at. Best to tow it to a shop if you don't feel like you can easily diagnose it there.

Does it feel like it tries to pull? Any noises when trying to get it to move? Will it try to back up?
