What have you done for your X?

There's not much today. The 2013 drives a lot better in the snow than my '03 ever did. '03 sat at home because of the weather. Stock with General Grabber A/TX

What have you done for your X?

I shined the plastics on both '03 and '13. My neighbors thought I was crazy, but they're dry, and I don't like X with painted plastics.

What have you done for your X?

I got an oil change and filled up my gas tank for my 2003 Xterra. I added half a quart of Lucas oil stabilizer with the oil change because it's at 300,000. It was amusing to be at the gas station with my Gen 1 Xterra parked next to a Gen 2. Most Gen 2 owners seemed to think they had a better...

What have you done for your X?

Not much this week. I just added oil to my '03. I wanted the gold R50 in the parking across from my job today. I want to get one next year.

    coolant leak.

It's fixed or seems okay. I think, finally, the OEM thermostat was put in. I question if they did before. It stays at the 4 o'clock 99% of the time. In the mail, I got an OEM one with an OEM gasket for a backup.

    coolant leak.

I dropped it off at the shop. It was getting warm again. They’re going to look at fans and the rest. The water pump was replaced in Dec or January. Was it aftermarket? Probably. The shop did it, and it wasn’t cheap. It cost me 1200. The radiator was replaced about the same time, that was 700...

    coolant leak.

Mechanic initially with a vacuum, but I have checked. Since, because temps and making sure the thing is full of coolant. Where it can't get air, I am taking it to work today. It's a 30-mile commute, and see how it goes.

Any recommendations on a high mileage transmission fluid?

I don't know. My Gen 1 every few years it gets changed. I look at the fluid and tell how it feels shifting. Drained, filled, and a new filter. My Gen 1 is at 300k for mileage. I always drive into the gears and never force it to shift.

What to look for when purchasing a used Xterra

Gen 1s are oil burners over time and timing belts. Valve cover gaskets check. By 200k, nearly all will need head gaskets. Gen 2s so far cooling, and all related. If a Gen 2 is missing all the extra parts, like engine beauty cover, first aid kit, cup holder inserts, windshield wiper bolt covers...

Xterra starts up, drives for about 5-10 minutes, dies at idle or jerks while driving

The fuel pump may be getting weak. Check fuel pressure. Also, check the fuel filter. My Gen 1 started to do that months before it died. The fuel pump and sender unit all went bad. I ended up going downtown in a traffic part of town before, all of a sudden, all went out. I ended up in a tow...

    coolant leak.

Anything is 25 mph, and the temp gauge is 4 o'clock position. It moves to half above 30 mph and stays there. I checked the radiator's coolant, which was 6 to 8 oz low. Gun shy because, after owning this car since December, cooling has been the issue.
