    Kansas X's Unite!

Not that I know of, but I'll have to confess that our X doesn't get much off-road use. I've never been to the place in Manhattan, either. It wouldn't surprise me if there were some wheeling opportunities around here, like maybe on the reservation. I DO know that there used to be an active...

    Kansas X's Unite!

Well, I got a notification, so I s"semi-active". I bought my wife's X at State Line Nissan, and had it serviced there for years, until we moved out of the area.

    Towing With A 1st Gen

Radiator and/or water pump could be the culprits, especially if they've never been replaced. Was coolant level correct? If it was low, it might signal anything from a leaky radiator hose to a head gasket problem. Start with the simple things: make sure coolant level is correct, and then maybe...

What Spares Do You Carry Off Road

Duct tape and baling wire, LOL! With those, you can fix anything. . . . . and a hammer!;)

In our case, it did not cause the truck to die, just to sputter and buck, so there WAS fire to the plugs, at least some of the time.

Check the cap and rotor for excessive carbon fouling. Had a similar problem with our X once, and that was the reason.

My wife has a yellow 2002 that I bought her for an anniversary present in 2006. Still with us, despite having been wrecked TWICE by my eldest daughter, after we let her take it off to college with her. After a rebuild, it's still a heck of a nice truck. Good luck with yours! BTW - looks like...

    Towing With A 1st Gen

All my towing has involved a late-80's vintage pop-up camper, 2000 lbs. empty. Mainly camping in Kansas, Nebraska, and Missouri. The X will do it, but you definitely know you're using most of what she's got when you're climbing hills down in the Ozarks.

    Where To Buy Parts?

For body parts, look to Pick'N'Pull or some other self-service junk yard to save literally tons of money. OR, if you can get lucky like I did, you might find a non-running donor vehicle on Craigslist for a couple hundred bucks. I actually managed to find an X that was even the right color to...

    Question About Warn Locking Hubs

WELL, nobody ever answered this question, so I guess I'd better do it myself, in case some other poor, uninformed soul needs the info. Due to the COVID situation, it took WARN a couple of weeks to reply to my inquiry. The answer was thus: "No, the service kit does NOT contain replacement...

    Question About Warn Locking Hubs

Man, I've been away for a long time! But the decks are finally cleared, and I'm ready to get back to work on GREENIE. Sooo . . . first thing is to install the set of WARN locking hubs I scored at Pick'n'Pull last year. I probably need to order the 29061 service kit from WARN, but I'm not sure...

Xterra Sightings on the big screen?

I was binge-watching a dvd of season 1 of "BURN NOTICE" and noticed several 1st gen Xterras.

    Informal Survey

Is the 1st gen Xterra engine oil dipstick the hardest one to read accurately that has ever been invented? I would say no, but a close second. The only worse one I have personally encountered was in a 1991 Ford Festiva, which was basically a wire coat hanger with one end slightly flattened...

    Wind Deflector Seal

    Yes indeed.

    Wind Deflector Seal

I've bought two (front) air deflectors from junk yards, because mine was missing the seal, and they both had been stapled on. That was the basis for my earlier statement. I would mention, though, that if you have a sunroof, the seal was made to lay in front of the hinges. I don't think you...

    Wind Deflector Seal

No. There was quite a bit of difference between the 00_01 and the later ones. Early ones were attached with staples through the lower edge of the deflector. Early ones just went straight across the front and did not wrap around the sides.

    Another help request . . . . seatbelts

OK, so that idea was a bust. For some reason, Nissan changed the seatbelt mechanism between the 2001 and 2002 model years. The wiring plug-in on my 2001 is a short bit of wiring that plugs into a mated connector on the lower B-pillar. On the 2002, the vehicle harness plug directly into the...

Makes sense. Dunno why I didn't think of that.
