A friend of mine is having an issue with her 2011 X pro4X. Her dash is pretty much lit up like a Christmas tree and has been for a while now. She asked me to take a look since finding out i owned one a bit ago

about 8 months ago VDC, ABS, Slip lights and unable to shift i to 4WD. She took her truck to Nissan and was told bad wheel speed sensor.

2 days later dash lights up again and they then tell her bad reluctor wring ( tone ring?) and quoted her $8000 Canadian for a new rear diff. Said ufck it and has been driving it in 4WD since during winter months and finally switched into 2WD for the summer.

come to today. She showed up in my driveway lookibg for help.
issues reported:
-Exhaust sounds bad
- weird sound when turning left
- abs/vds/slip light on
Issues found:
-snapped coil spring in the front( found during inspection)
-Dust shield rubbing on front driver brake disk, moved it away from disk and sound when turning left went away
-Metered rear wheel speed sensors. Both metered around 750-800 Ohms. Only thing weird is the rear passenger side tetaining nolt is missing ) snapped and the sensor is being held in with rust)

Now after all that. Went for a quick test drive and the 4wd and park brake lights are now on on top if the VDC/Slip/ABS lights

i would like to help her figure this out. She loves this teuck and would like to keep it for another 5-10 years. Her Budget to fix this is $2000 Canadian dollars

already going to go buy:
-2x strut assemblies and potentially some UCA

So there's no way that a tone ring is fowled in the rear axle unless the bearings have failed. Which would be leaking gear oil.

No visible gear oil but I didn't remove the brake disk.
also update the TPMS light is now on ( just got a text from her)

i think the speed sensor lights are from the passenger rear speed sensor. The bolt keeping it in was snapped and I am pretty sure thats what provides a ground for the sensor

True story. There is a ring on the sensor. That the bolt grounds out.

one of my bolts has been snapped forever. Very unlikely that's the issue.

I have see where the sensor didn't get pushed all the way in though. could be that.

are you sure it's still the rear? could be the front - bad wheel bearings don't play nice with the abs. The dust shield and noise makes me think that might be the case.

Could be. I didn’t feel any play when looking at the front end

Christmas tree dash reminds me of CANbus problems caused by a dying IPDM. In my case none of the indicated problems were real, just lighting up the dash due to the computers on the network being stupid.

Got a buddy with a scanner that does more advanced stuff? U1000 is the clue.

If she has an old white IPDM I'd replace it with a newer junkyard pull. $50-100 last I checked. If she already has the new black style (2011 should) then my next step would be grounding, battery, fuses, wiring, connectors alternator. Anything power supply related that looks salty.

If I recall the FSM, the ABS computer triggers a bunch of those dash lights when speed signals don't agree. Could be wheels, trans, TC, engine. The 2-4WD shift issue sounds like a clue. Without a better scanner its hard to know where to look.
