Almost Swapped...

As the title states, I'm almost ready to get this job over and done with however I'm not 100% in love with the difference in track and am questioning the safety of rear spacers. I still have to drive this thing to the trails as I don't have a trailer. I've also got a co-worker trying to convince me to forget the IFS and go SA, however not sure about streetability at that point- and there's no going back after the SAS. What did you guys do? Run spacers? No spacers? Titan rear axle assembly? Any input would be appreciated.

The added width is one thing that's kept me from going TS. I'll be interested to hear from everyone on this as well.

A JK front D44 is within .1" of our track, that's what's got me thinking SAS. Plus I have the option of getting an elocker.

I've considered that as well. I feel like a 4" lift SAS is feasible with a little cutting up front.

I would get the full pair if you go that route. Already 4.10, locked, and a more readily available lug pattern. On 35s, I think it would be a great setup. I just don't have the time or really the desire to do a SAS right now.

I'm confused. You're worried about the extra width of the rig... on trails?

Umm.... That's actually a benefit not a hindrance.

Finish up your T-swap, get some 2" spacers, and go enjoy your rig. I can't even tell you how many SERIOUS rigs are T swapped with spacers. You may need to do some trimming on the pinch weld area by the rocker.

As for the locker.... The front locker is the least used mod I know of besides light bars.

SAS and the 2nd gen Xterra is a finicky business. Cool yes, SPENDY, and not streetable at all. Every single one that I've seen at GONE Moab has been trailered there.

Aside from aesthetics, not sure there's an issue. The rear wheels are already non-steering and have a diff to mitigate the potential skip when turning. A 2" spacer on the rear wheels, red loctite on the original studs should be fine. I believe @Prime is looking that way for his truck. And IM1RU already pointed out that many TS trucks are spaced.

I've been doing a lot of thinking regarding this matter. And I think I may have a bunch of TS parts going up for sale soon.

Absolutely nothing wrong with running spacers. If you're concerned about the width difference you could always swap a titan rear in and be identical width. Of course you'd need to do titan spindles and brakes in the front. As well as the Titan M/C & booster.

Another question, will 4.10 gears have the minerals to run 37's? It's an AT so it was suggested to go with 4.10.

On 4.56 will I still be able to take the freeway? I don't have a trailer so I have to drive it to the trails.

With an auto, 4.10s for 35s. 4.56s for 37s.

I'm going to disagree a little .....

I have 4.10's and run 33's in an auto. Maxterra runs 4.56's and 35's in an auto.... there end up within 25 RPM of being the exact same. Been that way for years. It's right at 2750 RPMs at 75 MPH.

You absolutely need to run 4.56's with 37's. GLW the 37's though. They make the X way too tall to wheel very well.
