Greetings, I’m Jamie from Las Vegas and you guys convinced me.... here goes. ::: shots :::

I bought my ‘06 Xterra S brand new. It was going to be my daughter’s first car, and for work to haul stuff around. My daughter drove it for a year and then decided she wanted a car, and I decide I’d keep the Xterra. A quarter million miles later I’m still driving her, and have been slowly saving in a “4x4” fund. Well when COVID hit, we had finally had it with California and fled with everyone else to Nevada. The “4x4” fund went into moving...

So lemons from lemonade... Now I’m in So Nevada with all this gorgeous desert to explore and Utah only a couple hours away, Wifey and I decided the old girl is getting a make over... As for the 4x part, if you dont tell her, we wont either.... Our great grandparents crossed the untamed country in wagons, it can be done.

And I do believe I saw a 4x conversion thread!!!

I dont know if I have an original picture of her, but this is where we’re starting, bone stock Xterra S 7360CE7D-F51E-4EE2-B5EE-796A1B0B92DF.jpeg

As you can tell the sun has been brutal to her for 14years so first off is new headlights and an LED conversion... Its dark out here and any more yellow and it will look like I have amber fog lights.

And you said LED conversions deserved a build thread....EF86931B-AE5B-4541-B145-AF709B0C3924.jpeg61DA7539-CEC0-4B51-BBDF-FC1CC9CF9CA2.jpeg

Yes, its a 4x2... at least for now.

We spend a bunch of time outdoors, In the desert and California Sierras, lots of places you can still get with tires ad ground clearance. A 4x4 is still the plan...Someday.

You could easily throw in just the rear axle from a Pro4X with the lower gears and locker and you'll be surprised how capable even a 2wd will be! I'm looking forward to your progress though!

I couldnt just do the lights... I’ve just spent two weeks lurking through the boards!

So my trucks most annoying feature is a serious case of Nissan paint cancer. So thank you everyone for testing all the colors and different paint brands for me! 423DF24B-5E89-4DDF-9A95-1893EBD1203D.jpeg 018E2A6C-115B-41DE-80C0-08D8BBCD2F42.jpeg

I would have done larger spots but even good 3M blue masking tape just peels off more of the original finger-paints Nissan painted this one with.

And if your going to take the time to take the rack all the way off to paint it, your half way done with installing a light bar too. The APOC light mounts fit perfect with a 80 bulb, 42” curved bar.

Also finally got rid of the ugly tube steps and mud flap thingies.

This is how it started for me . An 2005 white S 4x4 first I put restore stuff on the plastic's then headlight restore then take those ugly flap's / running board's off then the level kit turned into 2.5 inches of lift all around, put on slightly bigger AT's then 7 thousand mile's later I'm looking at 33's ETC-ETC-ETC . Now I'm on a what STUFF do I need/want to carry off roading with me buying spree. I don't think it get's any easier:eek: Your X is looking good !! I need to paint my plastic's because the restorer don't last to long. Been a fun/expensive adventure so far and the Xnation has been a great help .

And last part before tires, almost didnt happen. Of all things to be unavailable state wide because of covid (and the harbor freight recall) is jack stands...? And apparently its almost as difficult to get tires...

Add-a-leaf in the back.CFE86298-BA7D-4BDB-9BE2-6852FD194779.jpeg4B83CF50-23F7-4430-93DD-255F02FFAA3F.jpeg

Crabby you’re exactly right. Without the last couple of weeks on the board it would have seemed daunting to start. I had a $1000 for tires and mods. I think it was well worth it. I was dumb for never doing the leveling kit before.

The trail was loose but nothing the truck couldnt handle. I could see it being rough in poor weather but not a problem for the “Pro-2X”

Theyre Nankang Mudstar M/Ts in 285/75 R 16. Got a good price, but theyre pretty noisy. Fine with me I dont drive much right now and it helps hide the whistle from the light bar.
Terry, Crabby, what do you guys do to deal with your TPMS light. I love airing down my tires and have a good 88p compressor, but just cant kill the dam light when I reinflate...?

Also cant decide on spacers for the off set on the wheels. I can see both ways, what are your thoughts? I have a bit of a rub on the front sway bar at full lock that spacers would fix, but worry the fender rub will be worse, and it a bigger deal to me...

And oh man Terry, youre so right. That rear end out of a Pro-4 is an awesome idea. Not just for the gears which I could probably get away without, but damn the locker. I got crossed up a couple times and lost all power to the rear because of it... definately the next mod, thanks.

When I got the new Falken's I had the shop get me new upper end TPMS's.,,there metal and $70 apiece and the light went back to normal when reinflated but I only went down to 24 and probably didn't need to do that , No mud-No sand !! I'd put a sticker / piece of paper over it !!:):)

Hey Jamie , hope everything is good . Well I got the [ I need bigger tire's maybe MT's bug ] and I went with the fALKEN wildpeak MT-01 IN A 255/85/16 which is slightly taller then the 285's but only 1/4 inch thinner then the Falken 265's I got 8,000 mile's ago. No rubbing , I'm liking and just waiting to hit the dirt with them. Maybe that size would help with rubbing if your tire brand make's them !!

So deep orange talcum powder-Like sand is fun... Things were great at the start of the trail but it got softer and softer until in this corner we just buried it... At least the wife has been good and stuck now. I doubt sand will ever stop coming out of the air vents.

This was in Overton Dunes outside Overton, Nv. near the Valley of Fire state park.

So far “Sandy” Is looking like a strong contender for her name...
