Hi guys, I have a 2002 Xterra, SE SC

I recently had a shock break and im looking to replace them with Bilstein 5100's and I seem to have been able to search around and find the correct product number from Bilstein for them (which has proven to be a pain!) The issue I am now running into is I am looking to 'future proof' if you will and don't want to buy the no lift shocks if in a year I am just going to end up getting a lift or doing a PML and then having to buy new shocks. I have heard from several people that the 3" lift Bilstein 5100's will work on a stock Xterra and of course, work for a SL or PML. I talked to an awesome guy at 4x4parts.com and he saying though that the 3" lift will NOT work on a stock xterra.

Has anyone used the 3" lift 5100's and can confirm if they work on a stock first gen X or not?

Thanks!

Welcome! I'm not familiar with first gen lifts but most of the time shocks for an OE height vehicle don't fit the same vehicle when you suspension lift it.

Head over to the welcome center and introduce yourself and your Xterra!

Hey, I have an '02 with Bilstein 5100s on my 4x4Parts 3" SL and can confirm that the non-lift ones won't work. I went through the same thing you are going through. I bought a round of 5100s, only to find out later that they wouldn't fit the lift. So I bought them again to fit the lift. I do, however, still have the old set if you just need one to get you through. I had to cut off one of the fronts though due to a rust issue, but I have two rears and one front.

If time and money allow, I say just have at the new lift shocks and the lift at the same time.

Cheers

I figured the no lift ones wouldn't work on a SL. Its my second vehicle so I just have it parked right now, thank you for the offer though. Im beginning to think I might not get it lifted just due to the cost involved and how old the vehicle is, so I might just get the no lift ones which I have been told will still work with a PML if I decide to do a PML in the future. Just gotta track down the part number for the no lift ones which shouldn't be fun.

I took a look at the ones I pulled off mine before the lift. I bought them from 4x4Parts as well.

Front: 24-223379

Rear: 33-185606 (5125 Series)

Those Part Nos should work for the PML, but 4x4Parts could confirm. Those also may be 4x4's, not Bilstein's numbers. But like you, I've had great experiences with them. They've answered my questions years after the fact sometimes. Either way, good luck and have fun with the project whatever form it takes!
