Bad thing about the coverKing seat covers. they Will fade!. to a Off Grey color.. Mine were jet black, but front seats exposed to UV light, are Grey now. Rear seat covers are black..

Front driver seat outer edge is Failing, due to in & out all the time..
BUT I like the Molly straps.. nice to hook things to it. Long Flex Cuff's fit nice in the straps. For easy grab, as with the normal zip ties.
4-5 years old now?.
Thanks for the heads up. Since I didn’t do the rears, if it fades, it’ll match the grey parts somewhat later on. I just wish I had a passenger more often to work in that seat. Driver is getting shaped better now but Passenger still looks like a factory reject. Any issues with the straps underneath coming loose or ripping?

Also got the ARB wired up and while doing the brakes got a bad stud replaced on one of the wheel spacers. Tomorrow the motor mounts are getting replaced, truck vibrates pretty bad and with aluminum skid plates the noise them make because of the vibrations is headache inducing.

adding what my Driver seat looks like, with the folds can see the Dark Black, Vs the Sun Fade Now Grey. ONly strap that hangs down, no idea where to hook it.. so it went down into the trim. Other that Fade and Tearing from getting in & Out all the time.. that is the only issue. Will have to replace driverside someday with just the lower cover..

Pre trip prep, periodic maintenance, upgrades.....

  • New Powerstop front rotors and pads
  • EBC Truck pads in back after receiving two bad sets of Powerstop rotor and pad kits
  • Disassembled, cleaned, and reinstalled parking break shoes
  • Installed 250a Powerbastards Alternator
  • Up graded charging lead and circuit protection from alternator to battery
  • Dropped transmission pan and changed screen/filter
  • Installed PML extra capacity transmission pan with extra tapped sensor boss
  • Installed Auto Meter transmission temp gauge
  • Installed all aloominium CSF radiator
  • Complete cooling system hose change
  • Plastic T and bleeder fitting upgrade in the heater hoses
  • Chased down and fixed two leaks in the On Board Air system
Hoping to get this front suspension squeak dealt with prior to departure. LCA ball joints are the only thing I haven't lubed/inspected. Hopefully I can get away with the non zerk balljoint needle lube trick. I'll installed zerk joints when I re gear this winter. Also would like to get my hoop lightbar wired prior to leaving.

Did you just tuck the stock alternator to battery cable out of the way?

Did not. Since the new upgraded cable would also work with my stock alternator, which I boxed up as a trail spare, I traced back the factory charge cable as far back as possible, at both ends, to wiring bundles and cut it. I didn't want to split bundles open to remove it completely.

This week I've had new Duratracs installed and I put in new front brake rotors this morning. All that's left on my list is swapping in a new IPDM as soon as I decide how I'm going to wire up the front fogs again so they work with my high beams still.

What have I done for my X, you ask????

Well we went out wheeling today, so I let it get all kinds of dusty. We cruised up and down some back roads instead of being on pavement.

And what does my X do for me?? Possibly blows the front diff. Now to its credit it did wait until we were heading semi-homeward. At least it was able to make it home and Monday it goes in the shop to hopefully confirm what I suspect.

Now to be fair, I've since learned that it could be a CV joint gone bad.
Sitting behind the wheel and hearing "clunk, clunk" when you put it in 4 wd, your mind immediately goes to the worst possible scenario, aka "I'M GONNA DIE, AND THIS IS GONNA COST A MINOR FORTUNE TO FIX!!!" :D

Then some of your acquaintances offer their advice and opinions and other possibilities start to appear. :)

Neither one is that scary. All you have to do is look to see if it's a CV, and then listen to tell if it's the diff. Nothing you can about the diff on the trail, and if it's busted, driving it won't hurt, because it's already busted. Broke is broke. CV's are pretty easy to change, I've replaced quite a few on the trail, takes about 1/2 hour. You do have to carry a spare.

Yeesh. Can you tell if all four sheered and what was left of the other three just fell out? I'm the second pic the one empty hole looks like it may not have had anything in it for a while but it's hard to tell.

I drove probably 80 miles home from where we were so if there were any of the other bolt parts they probably fell out. I also think they came out several days ago, like maybe a week (?), and I just thought it was tires out of balance because they had just been rotated and I had just done a brake job and was trying to figure out if possibly I had a rotor out of balance.

In retrospect, I should have been looking underneath to see what was going on and in general just keeping an eye on things in general.

Decided to have a mechanical day today with it 78 and a nice breeze. Oil change, tire rotation, air filter cleaning, new Fumoto oil plug, and something I decided to inspect while poking around underneath.... the infamous cat heat shield straps. Toast. Shields are fine so off to the store I go. And a big thanks to everyone here for all the different tips and pointers you post. The ziplock baggie on the oil filter is the cat’s ass

I fed my Xterra a little Ford today. Well, technically, this lady not paying attention fed her Ford to my bumper when somebody wanted to turn left for gas.
20200813_191858.jpg

My plate light got bent up but didn't break. Tow plug thing broke off. Zip tied it to the recovery tab to drive home. No frame distortion as far as I could see. Scuffed my paint where it destroyed that poor little intake manifold, but it was getting rusty and needing fresh paint anyway.

I wanted to hit the like button but didn't wanna jinx it down the road , glad there's nothing noticeably wrong with the X . I recommend some TUM'S for the glove box as fORD'S are known to cause heartburn !! ;)

Ouch!!... that little puddle skimmer sure crumpled up bad..

with that impact hitting low would inspect more, as with up front Via the frame.

Good your not injured.. other poor rust got knocked off and some Radiator spray.

Like the Plastic chunk stuck in your Receiver.. haha

Finally got a chance (made time) to work on putting everything back together. Only took me like 2 months . Passenger valve cover, gasket, plugs and coils all accomplished. New plenum gaskets, the tb one that came in the pack was too big so keeping the old one there for now. Think I got everything plugged back in. Extracting the broken bolt on the driver side was a no-go, broke two reverse drill bits, with the end of the second one stuck in the bolt. Will probably need professional help for that one at this point, though I’m wondering if it would be fine if I just ran some permatex along that section of the mating surface?

Got the rest of the engine compartment put back together, fired her up and turned her around to provide access to change the crank sensor sometime in the next week.

You paid $147 for four bolts and had them install it? Dude, that's not even a 10 minute job out on the trail in the dirt.

It's probably time you started learning how to fix your own stuff, especially if you want to wheel it.
