I am looking to build a front bumper with built in winch plate. I have heard that I will need to reinforce the front frame horns. What is the best way to do this

I welded a plate on the inside of the horn, the crumple portion, with a section of one inch square stock running between them. Mine is more of a really big washer to spread the load from the bolts going all of the way through when mounting my shrockworks bumper.

Are you looking to do more of a hidden winch plate or a boxed in bumper? The hidden plate needs more support because it does not have the rest of the bumper for support.

If you look through my build thread you will see what I did.

Are you planning on putting the winch above the horns and back, like cutting off the front of the horns, and pushing it as far back as you can?

If you have a quick sketch of what you are thinking of doing, I could give some better thoughts on the bracing side of it.

I cut back the frame 3" and welded on a piece of 2x2 square tube on top of the frame then scabbed the front and sides w some 1/8" steel to finish it off. Hold on ill post a pic.

ok so back on it again. what i am thinking is to weld a chunk of 2x2 on the front with a winch plate welded across the top of the horns and maybe a bit of bracing such as a gusset inside the horns. that will let me mount the winch low and tight and then i can build a bolt on bumper at some point later that will be independent of the winch.
