From someone who sold a pretty well put together 4x4 to get a pickup in the past, just buy the truck and keep the X. You'll regret it and you'll lose your @$$ selling a modified vehicle.

Years later I've had to start from scratch when originally I had a ton of good quality parts on my XJ and let them go for nothing.
100% this. We have all been there.

^this. if you already own the vehicle you should just keep it and get the truck. looks like you've been having fun with the X since I saw you at ecxc!

Hey man, you commented in mine thread, and now it's my turn to comment in yours! Roxanne looks awesome, and you're having fun with her, so I say don't get rid of it.

I also have a 2004 Colorado z71 that I normally use as my daily driver. Originally, I was going to buy a commuter car and mod the Colorado to use for my off roading/camping/overlanding needs. I did the math though, and decided it was actually going to be cheaper in the long run to buy the Xterra, spend 2k or so modding it and getting it set up, than it would be to build the Colorado, buy another daily, and and keep fixing things as they break on the Colorado (which they do, because it just wasn't designed to be used as an overland truck).

Keep the xterra, buy truck, have fun, profit. That's my $.02.

Haven't posted on this thread in a while. I replaced the valve cover gaskets which had both been leaking for a while. After that the intake manifold cracked where a hose went in, causing it to leak coolant to the point I couldn't drive until I had a new one. That was a week of no driving and a bunch of money for the replacement part. While I was at it I put on an Airaid throttle body spacer. Not sure but I wanna say I got at least some of the 5 HP.

Then I went to take out the fuel sending unit to make sure I bought the right one ( I don't remember why I thought I needed to do this) and ended up breaking the connection to the fuel pump. Once again I couldn't drive. Luckily the replacement part came quickly and after breaking another part on the sending unit just to get it out, cursing the designers, and a little help from dad Roxanne is up again.

I did notice that the new fuel sending unit is slightly different from the old one in that it had one less part on it. If anyone knows exactly what it is let me know...

Yeah lol. My dad temporarily welded it back together but I need to figure out what shocks to get. I'll be replacing all four.

5100s are good shocks. I have the 4600s (similar valving) on my K2500 and had them on the rear of my X before I lifted it. I am very happy with them.

I talked to my buddy about them yesterday, and he said they're awesome. His exact words were "its like riding in a Cadillac".

Update on the Bilsteins: They're pretty nice! Most of the sharp jolts I was getting on the road are significantly dulled. And the noise I get on hard turns is diminished. I still haven't put on my torsion bars so I need to get on that...

So I'm making the swap to 33s... I currently have BFG 31x10.50 r15 and I plan to stick with BFG unless someone suggests otherwise. I'm assuming I can keep the wheels I have but I'm not 100% sure. Also does anyone know how much of a difference in fuel economy and life there will be between A/T and M/T? I don't go wheeling as much as I'd like to so probably 95% of my driving is on pavement, although I'd like to change that. Any advice is appreciated.

Need Bigger Tires
Not sure how well they do for a first gen, but Im running Cooper ST Maxx's in 255/85r16, as they are a narrower tire in 33 vs the 285s. They were about 10lbs lighter than the 285s, which (in theory) saves some fuel economy. Been very happy with their performance, and up here in Edmonton we get all the weather conditions on our roads. Ice, snow, slush, rain, they've handled them all well.

I've been really happy with my Cooper AT3s. Most of my driving is on the highway as well and they are pretty quiet. They do well off-road too. I've had them aired down to 15psi in the rocks with no issue.

These are good tires. And great on the highway too

I got a few little upgrades done recently; installed a 4x4parts idler arm brace and new front sway bar end links. The spacers on the old end links were stuck to the bolts and I had to cut both out. That was a PITA and I feel like it shouldn't have been. But I guess that's how every repair or mod is on Roxanne LOL.

I also ordered a couple rocker switches from OTRATTW for the lights I already have installed, plus a enough brackets for all the lights I plan on having and a little extra!

With all the coronavirus crap going on, my dad and his friend that owns a metal working shop had time off so I could (finally) get my bumper gap addressed.20200326_121034.jpg

Gap is bigger here lol!

Fitment...

Adjustments, more mods to accomodate the winch better, and some polishing were needed. He also fabbed up some new light brackets and one for the winch control box.

Aaaand the final product...
