All done

2c753cf4920d4a19fa5ef7ed563d2715.jpg

Mod 2 - made 2 cargo mats out of a truck bed mat bought on Amazon. DepHep Rear Molle panels installed. Sprayed the rear corners in Kraylon bedliner

Mod 3 - Installed used WK sliders (sandblasted and PC), used shrock rear bumper, volant (12470) total PITA, and snorkel

If I had to do this over again I would modify the box before I started installing. Install came out good.... but, there was a lot of fussing and cussing
emoji24.png

Here are some photos of the amazing time I had trying to fit this square into a circle.

I did perform a melt mod to the area that touches the brake lines. Unfortunately the pics don't show much.

Reason Why opted for a snorkel is this pic. And the sandy desert air when trailing other rigs.

Admittedly, drilling holes in the fender was scary at first. Honestly, nothing to worry about. The holes are way oversized and do not require perfection for a clean install.

Sealing it up
2bebcebdfb6b628894d9d9132ebd3bbf.jpg

Riveted the adapter on. A must do before installing the box. It is a very, very tight. I had to gently bend brake lines and an AC hose to get it in there.

Note: The newer model Volant is easier to install. However, it has a gigantic hole in front of the box by the horn that most would want to seal. The 05 version (12470) is already sealed.

Mod 4 - Hefty front bumper and aluminum skids. Took 7 months from time of purchase to get these. At the time Hefty stopped offering options for this bumper. Can't get full cage they only make it one way now.

Future installers - Be sure to check all items at FedEx before you sign. I was missing a bracket for the gas tank skid. Hefty promptly shipped new ones to me.

Action pic time! GoneMoab 2019. Overland Expo West. Camping in the Mingus Mountains AZ. Fun trip. Had a blast meeting everyone. That is Mr./Mrs. @Un4seen4 and @RikRong rigs included in some pix below.

The custom super extended auto disconnecting Bilstein shock is a result of me not finding time to completely install shock skids before I left. The shock skid caught a rock on Porcupine Rim and flipped up snapping the shocks shaft. Note to self: Use mounting bolts on shock skids. Using just the lower shock mount bolt is a recipe for a broke shock.

What happens when you mount your shock skids properly. You make custom extended automatic disconnecting shocks :) :D

Basically my skids were installed with just the lower shock mounting bolt. I didn't drill a hole to mount a bolt to the diff's shock mount to keep it from flipping and snapping my shock in half. $240 lesson learned. Don't do what I did here.

Thank you very much.

I'm generally not a fan of stopping and taking the time to do it. But, when the lady is spotting she can take photos at the same time! Lol

Fyi, you seemed to be looking for suggestions on our upcoming trip. I well throw one out there. The Alpine Loop in Southwest Colorado (Silverton) is a must for this guy. You can do it before Imogene has a warm up. The trail heads aren't to far from each other. Black Bear is great too. If I was picking 2 though I would pass on Black Bear. Might already be snowed out by the time you get there. Last time i went, it was dumping snow the week after Labor Day. Become friends with mother nature and I wish you better weather luck.

I was planning on spending about a week or so in the area so the suggestion is a welcomed thought. It's one thing to see something on a map or the Funtreks book, but it's another to actually have gone there and know the routes and what's worth seeing. I'm used to harsh winters and my tires are winter rated....but I'd rather not have to deal with winter during the "summer" vacation, hopefully mother nature will hold out. Snow 7-8 months of the year is enough lol!

Cut fenders, added 1" body lift, 35's installed.

See a problem here? How the heck do you get air in these with the rash guards on? Oh, Black Rhino engineers screwed up. Will have to cut a half moon shaped hole with a pincel grinder in the bash rings so I can inflate/deflate my tires. Dammit man.

2 of them used a lot of weight. 7oz. Other 2 were 2-3 oz. Not bad. Not the best. They were road forced.

Still need to reinstall the wheel well liners, sliders, and finish the edges on the fenders.

Nice job on the fenders! I tried to do mine that well. The drivers side came out perfect. Passenger side, not so much.

Same here. The passenger side was the one I experimented on with the bending that didn't pan out. Drivers side was all dremel. I like the way that one came out. Still gonna add door edge guard to them so I dont cut myself on the sharp edges

I was able to bend mine by cutting the edges into 3” portions. A lot easier to bend that back.

8vU0PIc.jpg

iof7zBb.jpg

Afterwards I painted the bent in pieces with POR15 sealer and put the fender liners in. I had to use self tappers on the bottom but otherwise it fit nicely. You’ll get some paint flaking but that is normal, especially when you try to bend large sections.

Sent out a FB invite, and somehow 12 rigs showed up. Some from Vegas, 1 from San Jose, SD, LA. Not bad for a little FB invite. I think location is the reason that many showed up. There seems to be good attendance to any events out here.

Another trip in the books. 20 days, 5000 miles. Visited Utah and MaxGear Headquarters for the new ass implant. Other states visited. Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon. Last few days in the Sierras of CA.

Ass Implant details: Made for my oddball 1 inch BL. Options: All LED light options, Dual Jerry's, tabs for Front Runner table, satin black tex powder coat. Really like how the hinge bolt on this is greased. Does not make any noise when open and closed.
