Dome Light Issue

I followed a build thread for installing an led strip on my hatch that had me tap into the rear dome lights power wire. Long story short my dome lights no longer work. I've replaced the bulbs and checked the illumination fuse on the fuse panel on the passenger side. I read on a different thread about fuse #23 in the body control module. It looks like its above the steering column and not fun to remove.

If anyone has insight I'd appreciate it. I'm about to drop it off at the shop and I don't want to do that.
Thanks all

EDITL I have since wired the LED strip to a blue sea fuse panel in the front.

Any chance you may have pulled that wire you tapped into too much? Possibly poor connection on power or ground side. But I mean the led strip works so it’s something after you tapped the dome light power wire.

I ran new wires to the back fearing I had stretched the wires. I should've specified the hatch light has been wired to a blue sea fuse panel up front.

Hmmm, I mean that still shouldn’t affect your dome light receiving power. The issue that seems reasonable would be a poor or loose connection somewhere after you tap off the dome light power wire. So you used the dome light power wire to actuate the relay for the led strip?

originally i tried to splice into the power cord coming back to the rear dome light. i check continuity at both dome plugs and got nothing.

Do you have a meter? Here's how Nissan works dome lights. The lights have 12v all the time. All the time. The computer decides when to send ground to activate the lights.

So make sure that one of the legs in the light has 12v. Go to body ground to get your test right. If you do then check that you have continuity to ground on the other leg of the bulb when the light is supposed to be on.

Do they work if you manually throw the switch?

^This. It's kind of a PIA to work with because of the switched ground when adding new lights. With a meter you should be able to test it and see the ground flipping on/off. Are none of the dome lights working anymore or is it just the rear?

First thing I'd check after the meter is anywhere you did some splicing to verify they're still intact and insulated, especially if you used those crush connectors or electrical tape. The best process I've found if it's not in a place you can solder is stripping the wire ends, twist the ends together and either heat shrink it with one long piece or use electrical splicing tape. It's a rubber like tape that when you stretch a little and then apply will form into a solid rubber covering, it's awesome stuff.

i have no power to the switches. i'm half tempted to just run the wires all the way up front to the blue sea fuse panel so i have dome lights.

Here's some useful info to check out on the various fused power sources for the dome light system. This info is for an X with power door locks which I'm assuming you have:

*For reference 'J/B' = fuse block, I think the main one under the hood. Info from FSM Section LT-106 >*

Power is supplied at all times:
• through 10A fuse (No. 25, located in the fuse and fusible link box)
• through 10A fuse [No. 18, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
• through 50A fusible link (letter g , located in the fuse and fusible link box)

With the ignition switch in the ACC or ON position, power is supplied:
through 10A fuse [No. 4, located in the fuse block (J/B)]

With the ignition switch in the ON or START position, power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 1, located in the fuse block (J/B)]
