ok I have a few more questions for you
when was the last time you changed the plugs, wires
the P400 code looks like it has to do with the EGR valve
you also have the knock sensor code there as well.

unfortunately I am a second gen guy ( the 04 falls in the first gen Xterra) but hopefully one of the first gen guys like @kirk or @Prime will be around at some point and provide some info

Check your intake for cracks. Had a dealer do an oil change and they didn't put the rear resonator back in right. Ran fine under load but barely could idle.

I'll double check the codes after dinner

Codes: P0400, P0430, P0328, P0102, P0127.

P0400 isnt a major code, start by double checking your vacuum lines, especially around your EGR valve. May can clean that EGR as well.

That P0430 code is a bit more troublesome IMO, that could be your O2 sensor or a clogged cat which would easily explain why you are chugging around. You could gamble on an o2 sensor, but my money is on the cat.

The p0328 knock sensor doesnt mean anything unless you are supercharged. It shouldnt have turned the light on. I would ignore that one pretty much.

The P0102 is your MAF - Mass air flow sensor. Start by checking your wires, then you might try and clean it, worse case replace it. That also could (probably is) cause you to run bad. Its like $100 or less. Id just replace it.

P0127 is the air intake sensor in your intake. That part is under $20. Id replace it too. Then reset all your codes and see what happens.

I am not the premier first gen guy, thats @Prime but I have owned several and have had each of those codes. Replace your sensors, check your vacuum lines, then see how you run. Are you handy? Can you replace the cat on your own? I dont know the condition of your X but if you can remove the cat your self you'll know real quick if its clogged by how it runs. If not, check with an exhaust shop.

@kirk, I have already bought the Knock sensor!

Just need some help changing that out.

Once the X is fixed I'm to rip the carpet out to put diamond plated flooring in and custom lights inside and out.
You've already bought it, but the knock sensor is to much a pain to deal with when it doesn't make a real difference. It's located under the lower plenum, doesn't set the light, and doesn't make a huge difference on a na engine

100% this. I wouldnt bother with it at all. Gains arent worth the effort. You dont have reverse? Automatic trans I assume?

I feel your pain. My wife also has an '02 yellow X. We let our daughter take it when she went off to college. Last year, she wrecked it. Twice. We did manage to resurrect it and get it back on the road, but the wife reclaimed it for her own. The rebuild cost us about $2100, which included the purchase of a non-running parts vehicle.

oh..and I know that the thread is a bit old but I just wanan add that sealing with multiple codes can be daunting, but it's never too late to seek help and connect with others who share your passion for Nissan vehicles.

Living in Texas, you're part of a vibrant automotive community where you might have found the assistance you needed. If you're still on the lookout for resources or considering exploring other Nissan models, JDMbuysell could still be a valuable option. They offer a diverse range of Nissan vehicles, including the iconic Silvia.
